ABSTRACT Aim To systematically review the evidence on the relationship between periodontal health interventions and the risk of first‐ever ischemic stroke. Materials and Methods Search strategy included electronic and hand searching to January 2025. MEDLINE (OVID), EMBASE (OVID), SCOPUS, LILACS, Web of Science (WOS) and Cochrane Central Register of ...

ABSTRACT Objectives The aim of this work is to assess and compare the impact of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) versus vitamin K antagonists (VKA) during and immediately after periodontal nonsurgical therapy. Materials and Methods A prospective observational cohort study was conducted with patients who presented a history of cardiovascular disease ...

Beyond the Kidney and Lung: Cutaneous and Mucosal Clues to Human Hantavirus Disease
Rodent exposure and aerosolized excreta can lead to hantavirus infection with systemic endothelial injury and capillary leak, resulting in thrombocytopenia and syndromes such as HPS/HCPS and HFRS/NE. Early dermatologic and mucosal findings, including flushing, conjunctival injection, petechiae/purpura, and mucosal bleeding, may provide important clues ...

In anticoagulated atrial fibrillation, residual ischemic stroke risk persists despite guideline‐directed therapy. In this single‐center cohort, an enlarged index outpatient left atrial diameter independently predicted stroke and improved risk stratification when added to CHA2DS2‐VA (CHA2DS2‐VALa), supporting a simple, clinically implementable ...

ABSTRACT Background Amiodarone is frequently co‐prescribed with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in atrial fibrillation (AF), but its impact on early bleeding risk after DOAC initiation in older adults remains uncertain. We evaluated short‐term safety outcomes associated with concomitant amiodarone use at the time of DOAC initiation.

ABSTRACT Aim To compare retrieval‐augmented systems with general‐purpose large language models (LLMs) on standardised periodontal clinical vignettes. Materials and Methods Eleven AI systems were evaluated: nine general‐purpose LLMs, one general‐purpose retrieval‐augmented platform (Perplexity) and one medical‐domain retrieval‐augmented platform ...

We developed a machine learning model to predict renal function decline in patients with type 2 diabetes and preserved kidney function. Using one year of routine clinical data, the model forecasts eGFR decline over three years, enabling early identification of high‐risk patients and supporting timely, targeted therapeutic interventions.

Associations of skeletal muscle mass and strength with arterial stiffness in type 2 diabetes
Lower skeletal muscle mass and lower handgrip strength were associated with higher arterial stiffness in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Assessment of both parameters may provide complementary information regarding vascular risk. ABSTRACT Sarcopenia is prevalent in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and may contribute to increased ...

Among patients with type 2 diabetes undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, thiazolidinedione use was independently associated with a significantly reduced risk of a composite of myocardial infarction, stroke, and all‐cause death, notably without an increased risk of admission for heart failure. ABSTRACT Background Thiazolidinediones (TZD) are a
