AbstractAspirin is an established therapy for the management of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and unstable angina. Secondary prevention with chronic aspirin therapy is also indicated for patients with stable angina.Aspirin inhibits cyclo‐oxygenase‐I, a key enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway leading to the production of thromboxane A2.

Platelets are a crucial component in the maintenance of normal haemostasis. In response to vascular damage, activated platelets adhere to the damaged endothelium leading to both aggregation and coagulation. Under healthy conditions, these processes prevent excessive vascular haemorrhage and promote vascular repair and regeneration.

Antiplatelet activity of tetramethylpyrazine
Thrombosis Research, 1994Tetramethylpyrazine (TMPZ) is an active ingredient of a Chinese herbal medicine. We have previously shown that TMPZ possesses antithrombotic activity in rat thrombotic models. Inhibition of platelet aggregation and promotion of disaggregation contributed to the antithrombotic activity of TMPZ.

Antiplatelet therapy and exodontia
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 2015This is a review of the management considerations regarding exodontia for patients taking antithrombotic medications that affect platelet function or aggregation. The authors reviewed the literature, focusing on the indications and mechanisms of antiplatelet therapy and the perioperative management of patients taking these agents who require exodontia ...

Antiplatelet Therapy in Diabetes
Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America, 2018Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Increased platelet reactivity among patients with DM contributes to disproportionately high levels of atherothrombotic CVD. Consequently, there has been tremendous interest in exploring the role of antiplatelet therapies in DM to ...

Exodontia and Antiplatelet Therapy
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2008The fear of excessive bleeding often prompts the physician to stop long-term, low-dose antiplatelet therapy before any surgical procedure. This may put the patient at risk of an adverse thromboembolic event. We undertook an assessment of the incidence of prolonged postoperative bleeding after dental extractions among patients on uninterrupted ...

Aspirin as an Antiplatelet Agent
Archives of Internal Medicine, 1980To the Editor. —There have been many studies relating the effect of aspirin prophylaxis on thromboembolisms. 1,2 Evaluation of the clinical data presented in them indicates that thromboembolic disease developed more rarely in men than in women under the identical dosage of aspirin given for prophylaxis against thromboembolism after hip surgery and ...

Current Opinion in Hematology, 2009
Cardiovascular events are still a major concern despite dual antiplatelet treatment with aspirin and clopidogrel. Moreover, recent developments that improved platelet inhibition were associated with increased bleeding complications, suggesting that personal dose adjustment might be needed.

Evaluation of an antiplatelet globulin
Thrombosis Research, 1979Abstract Dog antiplatelet serum was produced by immunization of rabbits with repeatedly washed and gel-filtrated platelets. After decomplementation and absorption with dog red cells, the IgG fraction of the antiserum was isolated by precipitation with Rivanol and ammonium sulphate.
