Comparative Evaluation of Vasorelaxant and Antiplatelet Activity of Two Plant-Derived Benzoquinones: Rapanone and Embelin

open access: yesMolecules
Vasorelaxant and antiplatelet agents play an important role in preventing and combating endothelial dysfunction, atherosclerosis and a plethora of associated cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). CVDs are the leading cause of death worldwide and nowadays occur

Efficacy of antiplatelet therapy in secondary prevention following lacunar stroke:Pooled analysis of randomized trials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background and Purpose: Lacunar stroke accounts for ≈25% of ischemic stroke, but optimal antiplatelet regimen to prevent stroke recurrence remains unclear.

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.

Transsulfuration pathway thiols and methylated arginines: the hunter community study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Serum homocysteine, when studied singly, has been reported to be positively associated both with the endogenous nitric oxide synthase inhibitor asymmetric dimethylarginine [ADMA, via inhibition of dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase ...

Hemobilia from biliary angiodysplasia diagnosed with cholangioscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Biliary angiodysplasia is extremely rare. Our background search revealed only a few case reports in the English literature. We present a case of angiodysplasia of the proximal common bile duct in a patient with subacute upper gastrointestinal bleeding ...

Platelet Rubicon Bidirectional Regulation of GPVI and Integrin αIIbβ3 Signaling Mitigates Stroke Infarction Without Compromising Hemostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies Rubicon as a key platelet protein that bidirectionally regulates GPVI and integrin αIIbβ3 signaling. Platelet Rubicon protects against cerebral ischemia‐reperfusion injury by limiting infarction without increasing hemorrhage.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of optimal P2Y₁₂ blockade in dual antiplatelet therapy for patients with diabetes with acute coronary syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Patients with diabetes are at increased risk of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and their mortality and morbidity outcomes are significantly worse following ACS events, independent of other comorbidities.

Validation of the Safe Application of Tokyo Guideline 2018 (TG18) Severity Grading and Treatment Algorithm in Super‐Elderly Patients Aged 85 and Over With Acute Cholecystitis: A Study in the Japanese Tertiary Care Hospital

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background With population aging and extended healthy life expectancy, the management of acute cholecystitis (AC) in patients aged ≥ 85 years has evolved. However, the Tokyo Guidelines 2018 (TG18) for AC provide no specific risk assessment criteria for this population.

Continuous Use of Thienopyridine May Be as Safe as Low-Dose Aspirin in Endoscopic Resection of Gastric Tumors

open access: yesGut and Liver, 2018
Background/AimsCurrent guidelines recommend withholding antiplatelets for 5–7 days before high-risk endoscopic procedures. We investigated whether this reduces post-endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) bleeding. Methods : Gastric ESD cases with ...
