Rationale and design of a randomised double-blind 2×2 factorial trial comparing the effect of a 3-month intensive statin and antiplatelet therapy for patients with acute mild ischaemic stroke or high-risk TIA with intracranial or extracranial atherosclerosis (INSPIRES)

open access: yesStroke and Vascular Neurology
Background It remains unclear if intensive antiplatelet and statin treatments begun within 24–72 hours of cerebral ischaemic events from intracranial or extracranial atherosclerosis is effective or safe. Methods The Intensive Statin and Antiplatelet ...

Cardiogenic shock mortality according to Aetiology in a Mediterranean cohort: Results from the Shock‐CAT study

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1336-1345, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Mortality in cardiogenic shock (CS) remains elevated, with the potential for CS causes to impact prognosis and risk stratification. The aim was to investigate in‐hospital prognosis and mortality in CS patients according to aetiology. We also assessed the prognostic accuracy of CardShock and IABP‐SHOCK II scores.

Prognostic impact of iron deficiency in new‐onset chronic heart failure: Danish Heart Failure Registry insights

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1346-1357, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Iron deficiency (ID) is prevalent in chronic heart failure (HF) but lacks a consensus definition. This study evaluates the prevalence and the prognostic impact of ID using different criteria on all‐cause and cardiovascular mortality, as well as first hospitalization for HF in patients with new‐onset chronic HF.

Cardiovascular toxicity induced by TKIs in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia: Are women and men different?

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1447-1454, April 2025.
This study analyzes 148 patients (66 women and 82 men) with chronic myeloid leukemia treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, focusing on cardiovascular adverse events. The risk assessment, performed using the HFA/ICOS score, reveals sex‐specific differences: venous thrombosis is more common in women, while arterial thrombosis predominates in men.

The Depth‐Specific Effects of Acupuncture for Post‐Stroke Gastroparesis: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial of Deep Versus Superficial Needling

open access: yesGut Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Post‐stroke gastroparesis (GP) is a debilitating complication that severely impairs quality of life. Although abdominal acupuncture is widely used, robust evidence regarding its efficacy, particularly concerning the critical parameter of the needling depth, is still lacking.

Tumor‐educated platelets in cancer diagnostics and prognostics: A critical appraisal and roadmap for clinical translation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Abstract Tumor‐educated platelets (TEPs) are emerging as a compelling frontier in liquid biopsy, functioning as dynamic, systemic sensors that sequester and process tumor‐derived biomolecules. This interaction imprints an integrated molecular signature of malignancy—spanning the transcriptome, proteome, lipidome, and crucially, the captured genome ...
