Advanced Materials for Biologics Delivery to Brain Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Material innovation is central to unlocking the therapeutic potential of biologics against many central nervous system diseases, including brain cancer. By engineering carriers with controlled transport, targeting, and release properties, advanced materials can overcome the blood–brain barrier and tumor microenvironment, improving the delivery of ...

Investigation of the role of LRP in multidrug resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
There have been many reports linking the overexpression of the lung resistance-related protein (LRP) with cross-resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs.

A Conserved Target Site in HIV-1 Gag RNA is Accessible to Inhibition by Both an HDV Ribozyme and a Short Hairpin RNA

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2014
Antisense-based molecules targeting HIV-1 RNA have the potential to be used as part of gene or drug therapy to treat HIV-1 infection. In this study, HIV-1 RNA was screened to identify more conserved and accessible target sites for ribozymes based on the ...

A small internal antisense RNA (aftsH) of all3642 (ftsH) in Anabaena sp PCC 7120

open access: yes, 2012
In bacteria, FtsH proteases are involved in quality maintenance of membrane proteins and cellular regulation at the level of protein stability. Among the 4 predicted ftsH genes in the cyanobacterium Anabaena sp. PCC 7120, namely alr1262, all3642, all4776

Iterative Selection of DNA Nanostructures for Cellular Uptake

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
DNA nanostructures are promising cell targeting delivery vehicles for therapeutics, but the targeting behavior is not fully understood. In this study, libraries of DNA nanostructures that can be amplified and sequenced are combined with cellular uptake as a selection pressure to iteratively refine DNA structures taken up in cells to better understand ...

Therapeutic potential of natural antisense transcripts and various mechanisms involved for clinical applications and disease prevention

open access: yesRNA Biology
Antisense transcription, a prevalent occurrence in mammalian genomes, gives rise to natural antisense transcripts (NATs) as RNA molecules. These NATs serve as agents of diverse transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms, playing ...

Cis-Antisense Transcription Gives Rise to Tunable Genetic Switch Behavior: A Mathematical Modeling Approach. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Antisense transcription has been extensively recognized as a regulatory mechanism for gene expression across all kingdoms of life. Despite the broad importance and extensive experimental determination of cis-antisense transcription, relatively little is ...

Detection of genome-scale ordered RNA structure (GORS) in genomes of positive-stranded RNA viruses:Implications for virus evolution and host persistence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Discrete RNA secondary and higher-order structures, typically local in extent, play a fundamental role in RNA virus replication. Using new bioinformatics analysis methods, we have identified genome-scale ordered RNA structure (GORS) in many genera and ...

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.

In-depth transcriptome analysis reveals novel TARs and prevalent antisense transcription in human cell lines. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
Several recent studies have indicated that transcription is pervasive in regions outside of protein coding genes and that short antisense transcripts can originate from the promoter and terminator regions of genes.
