A Relative Authorship Index: A New Metric for Evaluating Individual Contribution in Scientific Research. [PDF]

This study introduces the relative authorship index (RAI) to assess individual contributions by correcting for authorship inflation. Analysis of the Italian academic landscape reveals that RAI is significantly lower in northern universities compared to central and southern institutions and lower in public versus private universities.

We use the UK's 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) to study the attributes of top‐scoring (four‐star) publications in Economics and Econometrics. Although official documents contain aggregate scores for each institution, we show how these aggregates can be used to infer the score awarded by REF panellists to each publication.
