Preferential Myosin Heavy Chain Isoform B Expression May Contribute to the Faster Velocity of Contraction in Veins versus Arteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Smooth muscle myosin heavy chains occur in 2 isoforms, SMA (slow) and SMB (fast). We hypothesized that the SMB isoform is predominant in the faster-contracting rat vena cava compared to thoracic aorta.

Rationale and design of the randomized ‘early ventricular assist device’—Trial (VAD‐DZHK3)

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The VAD‐DZHK3 trial is a randomised controlled study evaluating whether elective LVAD implantation improves outcomes in end‐stage heart failure (HF) patients listed for heart transplantation compared with delayed implantation after clinical deterioration.

Distinct adipocyte progenitor cells are associated with regional phenotypes of perivascular aortic fat in mice

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2018
Objective: Perivascular adipose tissue depots around the aorta are regionally distinct and have specific functional properties. Thoracic aorta perivascular adipose tissue (tPVAT) expresses higher levels of thermogenic genes and lower levels of ...

The pulmonary artery pulsatility index in patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing valve replacement

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and aims The pulmonary artery pulsatility index (PAPi), that is, the pulmonary artery pulse pressure (PAPP) divided by the mean right atrial pressure (mRAP), is an increasingly used invasive index of right ventricular function. We sought to assess the prognostic impact of the PAPi in unselected patients with aortic stenosis (AS ...

The non-obligatory role of endothelial cells in the relaxation of arterial smooth muscle by acetylcholine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The concept of Endothelium Derived Relaxing Factor (EDRF), put forward by Furchgott in the earlier 80s of the past century, implies that nitric oxide (NO) produced by NO synthase (NOS) in the endothelium in response to acetylcholine (ACh) passively ...

Lung ultrasound and mortality in a cardiogenic shock population: A prospective registry‐based analysis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Lung ultrasound (LUS) and mortality in cardiogenic shock (CS) patients. Abstract Aims Lung ultrasound (LUS) is a widely used technique to assess de‐aeration in critically ill patients with respiratory failure. There is paucity of data on LUS in cardiogenic shock (CS).

Hybrid Approach of Aortic Diseases: Zone 1 Delivery and Volumetric Analysis on the Descending Aorta

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery
Introduction: Conventional techniques of surgical correction of arch and descending aortic diseases remains as high-risk procedures. Endovascular treatments of abdominal and descending thoracic aorta have lower surgical risk. Evolution of both techniques

Prognostic value of NT‐proBNP in patients with primary mitral regurgitation undergoing transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
In the PRIME‐MR study, patients with higher N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP) tertiles more frequently reached death or heart failure hospitalization (HFH) within 3 years. Log‐transformed NT‐proBNP levels independently predicted the primary endpoint (adjusted hazard ratio 1.17, 95% confidence interval 1.07–1.28; p < 0.001).

From multi‐omics to precision medicine in intracranial aneurysm: Biomarker discovery and multimodal integration

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
This review explores intracranial aneurysm biomarker discovery through multi‐omics. It reveals key genes, proteins, and metabolites, and shows how machine‐learning‐based multi‐modal integration may aid diagnosis and treatment. Abstract Despite extensive research, currently, no biomarkers are available for clinical use in intracranial aneurysm (IA ...
