Epidermolysis bullosa for primary care providers: A practical review

open access: yesJournal of General and Family Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a group of genetic skin diseases, which manifest as fragile skin and blistering in addition to many extracutaneous conditions. Pediatricians and primary care providers play an integral role in managing these patients with multifaceted care needs.

The effect of elexacaftor–tezacaftor–ivacaftor on liver stiffness in children with cystic fibrosis

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Cystic fibrosis hepato‐biliary involvement (CFHBI) is a common comorbidity in patients with CF and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The effect of the new and highly potent CF transmembrane conductance regulator modulator therapy, elexacaftor–tezacaftor–ivacaftor (ETI), on CFHBI, is still unclear.

Chemical composition of wild populations of Thymus vulgaris and Satureja montana in central Catalonia, Spain

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study is devoted to determining the chemical composition of essential oils obtained from 13 wild populations of thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) and 14 populations of winter savory (Satureja montana L.) from the Solsonès region of Catalonia, Spain. The essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger apparatus, and

Developing a quantitative structure–property relationships (QSPR) model using Caco‐2 cell bioavailability indicators (BA) to predict the BA of phytochemicals

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The present study aimed to measure bioavailability (BA) indicators, including epithelial barrier function, apparent permeability (Papp) and efflux ratio, of 84 types of phytochemicals using Caco‐2 cell and to develop predictive model systems using machine learning with a quantitative structure–property relationship (QSPR) model ...

Spatial analysis of vehicular trauma and identification of hotspots in North Carolina chelonians

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Vehicular trauma is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in chelonians admitted to the Turtle Rescue Team at North Carolina State University. This study used 15 years of retrospective data on turtle‐vehicular collisions to examine geospatial factors linked to vehicular mortality.

EP300 Modulates MCM8 Transcription and Augments the Malignant Phenotype of Hepatitis B Virus–Positive Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chronic infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains one of the primary drivers of the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a highly aggressive malignancy with a grim prognosis. This study focused on the role of E1A‐binding protein p300 (EP300) in the malignant phenotype of HBV‐positive HCC cells and its functional mechanism ...

Dexmedetomidine Blocks the ERK Pathway by Inhibiting MAP3K8 to Achieve a Protective Effect in Lung Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lung ischemia/reperfusion injury (LIRI) is a primary contributor to morbidity and mortality following lung transplantation. Dexmedetomidine (DEX) protects the lungs from I/R injury, but the underlying mechanisms remain uncertain. This paper examined the protective effect of DEX in LIRI and elucidated the potential regulation involved. LIRI was

Low‐Strip Dorsal Preservation Rhinoplasty Opens the Internal Nasal Valve in Tension Nose Deformity

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of dorsal preservation on internal nasal valve dimensions in noses with an overprojected cartilaginous septum. Ten postmortem human specimen heads with a tension nose deformity were imaged using ultra‐high‐resolution photon‐counting detector computed tomography, before and after low‐strip let down.

Major Human Leukocyte Antigen Expression in Respiratory Papillomatosis Clinical Specimens

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Major HLA class I expression was consistently observed on the majority of papilloma cells across 15 clinical specimens, supporting the hypothesis that HPV‐infected epithelial cells can be detected and eliminated by HPV‐specific CD8+ T cells if present.
