Unveiling the complex extra‐oral colonization pathways and pathogenic mechanisms of Fusobacterium nucleatum, a heterogeneous oral pathogen

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
We summarize the taxonomic characteristics, capabilities to adhere to and invade host cells, extra‐oral ectopic colonization pathways, and major pathogenic mechanisms of Fusobacterium nucleatum, and explore the regulation of F. nucleatum’s pathogenesis, aiming to provide references and assistance for the development of clinical interventions and future

Hyperspectral Raman imaging to understand patterns in dried biofluids in Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Raman spectroscopy is commonly used to identify biomarkers in biological fluids, often focusing on the outer ring of dried droplets due to molecular accumulation from the coffee ring effect. However, this approach may overlook important spectral information, so hyperspectral Raman mapping is used to analyze the entire droplet and identify optimal ...

Gut Microbiota Regulate Lipid Metabolism via the Bile Acid Pathway: Resistance to Hypoxia in Gansu Zokor (Eospalax cansus)

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The gut microbiota regulates lipid metabolism of Gansu zokor (Eospalax cansus) through the bile acid pathway in hypoxic environments, reflecting the unique survival strategy of subterranean rodents to maintain lipid metabolism homeostasis and flexible energy metabolism in hypoxic environments.

Proteome profiling of cerebrospinal fluid using machine learning shows a unique protein signature associated with APOE4 genotype

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 4, April 2025.
We sought to identify the cerebrospinal fluid protein (CSF) changes that are associated with the APOE4 genetic variant to better understand the vulnerability of APOE4 carriers to progress to Alzheimer's disease (AD) with age. To do this, we used machine learning and enrichment analyses to analyze 6082 proteins in the CSF of cognitively normal, mild ...

Differential Organ Ageing Is Associated With Age‐Related Macular Degeneration

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 5, May 2025.
Using the UK Biobank, this study trained neural networks to estimate the biological age of individuals according to markers of organ function. Computing the difference between the estimated organ age and chronological age yielded an estimate for accelerated or slowed ageing.
