Structure and biosynthesis of apolipoprotein B
American Heart Journal, 1987Apolipoprotein (apo) B100 copy deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) has been cloned and sequenced. The total sequence of apo B100 messenger ribonucleic acid has been revealed by the work from our group, as well as other groups. The sequence spans 13,689 nucleotides from the initiation to the stop codon.

Genetic abnormalities in apolipoprotein B
Trends in Cardiovascular Medicine, 1991Recent studies have demonstrated that mutations in the apolipoprotein (apo-) B gene can cause significant alterations in blood cholesterol levels. A variety of apo-B gene mutations that prevent the translation of a full-length apo-B molecule can lead to low blood cholesterol levels. A missense mutation in the apo-B gene has been described that prevents

Apolipoprotein B and Lipoprotein Metabolism
1985Publisher Summary This chapter describes apolipoprotein B (apoB) and lipoprotein metabolism. ApoB-containing lipoproteins enter the circulation primarily as chylomicrons and very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), but entry into other lipoprotein densities following secretion includes entry into intermediate density lipoprotein, low-density ...

Apolipoprotein B synthesis in humans: Liver synthesizes only apolipoprotein B-100
Metabolism, 1985Apolipoprotein (apo) B-100 and B-48 are prominent apolipoproteins in VLDL, IDL, and chylomicrons. Organ cultures of normal adult human liver were established to ascertain the form of apo B synthesized by hepatocytes in humans. Human liver was minced and incubated in 15 mL methionine-free RPMI-1640 medium with 10% dialyzed fetal calf serum plus 250 ...

Rat apolipoprotein B differs in solubility properties from human apolipoprotein B
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1990Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) in general is known as an insoluble protein in aqueous buffers without the initial aid of denaturing agents. However, following the total delipidization of rat plasma low-density lipoproteins, a considerable portion (28.2 +/- 3.0%) of rat ApoB was found directly soluble in an aqueous buffer, N-ethylmorpholine acetate (pH 7.3) as

Phosphorylation-dephosphorylation of apolipoprotein B
1986Publisher Summary There is little doubt of the physiologic importance of apolipoprotein B (apoB). In addition to being essential for the secretion of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), apoB plays a fundamental role in targeting cholesterol, as a component of LDL, to tissues via specific high-affinity receptors.

Aim: Prospective studies indicate that apolipoprotein (apo) measurements predict coronary heart disease risk. However, few population-based follow-up studies have addressed the predictive value of apo measurements in stroke risk.

The gene encoding human apo B has been mapped to the short arm of chromosome 2 in the p23-p24 region. The apo B gene extends over 43 kb and is composed of 29 exons and 28 introns. Both apo B 100 and apo B 48 were encoded by the same gene. All intestinal cDNA clones contained a single C to T base substitution in the codon CAA encoding Gln2153 in apo B ...

Apolipoprotein B/Apolipoprotein A-I Ratio and Apolipoprotein B
Angiology, 2013We investigated whether serum concentrations of apolipoprotein (apo) B and apoA-I and the apoB/apoA-I ratio provided predictive information on myocardial infarction (MI) and ischemic stroke during 13 years of follow-up in a group of initially clinically healthy 58-year-old men, free from previous cardiovascular disease, diabetes, other established ...
