ApolipoproteinE and Alzheimer's Disease

Biochemical Society Transactions, 1996
Abstract: The specific molecular pathway by which apolipoprotein E modifies the expression of Alzheimer's disease remains elusive. Isoform‐ specific interactions of apolipoprotein E with other molecules determine the outcome from other neurologic disorders and may provide more tractable model systems.

Apolipoprotein E and cholesterol metabolism

Klinische Wochenschrift, 1983
The role of apo-E in mediating lipoprotein interaction with specific receptors has been established. Through the use of selective chemical modification of specific amino acid residues of certain lipoproteins, we have gained insight into the importance of the lysine and arginine residues in this process. This understanding has been expanded by structure-

Apolipoprotein E and Alzheimer disease

Neurology, 2006
Apolipoprotein (apo) E, a multifunctional protein with central roles in lipid metabolism and neurobiology, has three common isoforms (apoE2, apoE3, and apoE4) with different effects on lipid homeostasis and neurobiology. Unlike apoE3, the most common isoform, apoE4, is associated with increased risk of developing Alzheimer disease (AD) and other ...

Simultaneous effects of the apolipoprotein E polymorphism on apolipoprotein E, apolipoprotein B, and cholesterol metabolism.

American journal of human genetics, 1988
Human apolipoprotein (apo) E is polymorphic. We have investigated the effect of the apo-E polymorphism on quantitative plasma levels of apo E, apo B, and total cholesterol in a sample of 563 blood-bank donors from Marburg and Giessen, West Germany. The relative frequencies of the epsilon 2, epsilon 3, and epsilon 4 alleles are .063, .793, and .144 ...

Apolipoprotein E and Alzheimer's disease

Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1994
The past year has seen widespread confirmation that the epsilon 4 allele of the apolipoprotein E gene is a major risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. The epsilon 4 allele also appears to correlate with life expectancy. This allele has been found to be present in over 50% of Alzheimer patients, regardless of whether or not they have a family history of ...

[Apolipoprotein E].

Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 1995
Apolipoprotein E (apo E) is one of the apolipoprotein components in very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) and high density lipoproteins (HDL). Apo E binds to low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors and apo E-specific remnant receptors, and regulates remnant lipoprotein metabolism through these receptors in the liver.
