Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Immunotherapeutic targeting of membrane Hsp70-expressing tumors using recombinant human granzyme B [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: We have previously reported that human recombinant granzyme B (grB) mediates apoptosis in membrane heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70)-positive tumor cells in a perforin-independent ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

MIRTFnet: analysis of miRNA regulated transcription factors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Several expression datasets of miRNA transfection experiments are available to analyze the regulatory mechanisms downstream of miRNA effects. The miRNA induced regulatory effects can be propagated via transcription factors (TFs).

Regulation of apoptosis, ferroptosis, and pyroptosis mediated by acetylation

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Acetylation is an important post-translational modification (PTM) of proteins and plays critical roles in multiple biological processes. The modes of cell death represent different pathways leading to the final outcome of “death” for the cell, with ...

Apoptosis Inhibitor 5: A Multifaceted Regulator of Cell Fate

open access: yesBiomolecules
Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is a fundamental process that maintains tissue homeostasis, eliminates damaged or infected cells, and plays a crucial role in various biological phenomena.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Identification of Novel Genes and Pathways Regulating SREBP Transcriptional Activity.

open access: yes, 2009
BACKGROUND: Lipid metabolism in mammals is orchestrated by a family of transcription factors called sterol regulatory element-binding proteins (SREBPs) that control the expression of genes required for the uptake and synthesis of cholesterol, fatty acids,

Helicobacter pylori Membrane Vesicles Stimulate Innate Pro- and Anti-Inflammatory Responses and Induce Apoptosis in Jurkat T Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Persistent Helicobacter pylori infection induces chronic inflammation in the human gastric mucosa, which is associated with development of peptic ulceration, gastric atrophy, and gastric adenocarcinoma.

The differential roles of Giardia duodenalis-secreted tenascins in inducing intestinal epithelial cell apoptosis and the attributed EGFR-STAT3 axis regulation.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases
Giardia duodenalis is an important extracellular protozoan parasite of the gut responsible for waterborne diarrhea in human and nonhuman animals worldwide. Giardia trophozoites express and secrete excretory-secretory proteins (ESPs) affecting structural,
