Rapid onset sodium appetite and orofacial responses to intraoral capsaicin and hypertonic NaCl in the rat

open access: yes, 2022
Sodium appetite reverts from aversive to hedonic the orofacial responses to intraoral hypertonic NaCl in a taste reactivity test (TRT). An electrophysiological-based hypothesis suggests that aversion to salty taste results from oral nociception (e.g ...

Probiotics Improve Eating Disorders in Mandarin Fish (Siniperca chuatsi) Induced by a Pellet Feed Diet via Stimulating Immunity and Regulating Gut Microbiota

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Eating disorders are directly or indirectly influenced by gut microbiota and innate immunity. Probiotics have been shown to regulate gut microbiota and stimulate immunity in a variety of species.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Reciprocal interactions between sodium appetite and need-free sugar intake

open access: yes, 2020
Behavioral sensitization occurs during sodium appetite (expressed as sodium intake to compensate for depleted sodium) and need-free sodium intake (expressed as daily overnight sodium intake in excess of dietary sodium need).

Exendin-4(1-32)K-Capric Acid, a Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonist, Suppresses Food Intake via Arcuate Pro-Opiomelanocortin Neurons [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology and Metabolism
Background Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is an incretin known for its anti-obesity effects, and several effective drugs targeting GLP-1 receptors (GLP-1Rs) have recently been developed to treat obesity.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Appetite, energy intake, and PYY3-36 responses to energy-matched continuous exercise and submaximal high-intensity exercise. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
High-intensity intermittent exercise induces physiological adaptations similar to energy-matched continuous exercise, but the comparative appetite and energy balance responses are unknown.

Safety and Tolerability of Givinostat: Evidence From Real‐World and Clinical Practice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The aim of our study was to establish the prevalence of adverse events in a real‐world setting in boys living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) treated with givinostat as part of an Expanded Access Program (EAP) in Italy. Methods The cohort included 90 ambulant boys, with age when treatment started between 6 and 23 years (mean ...

Informing Primary School Nutritional Policy: Effects of Mid-Morning Snacks on Appetite and Energy Control

open access: yes, 2013
The purpose of this research was to inform primary school nutritional policy by identifying which mid-morning snack would be more beneficial to consume from an appetite control perspective. During morning break 14 girls and 11 boys were provided with 160
