Polish Cryobanks: Research and Conservation of Plant Genetic Resources

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2022
To date, the use of liquid nitrogen (LN) in plant gene banks is relatively limited. Globally, in 2021, approximately 10,000 accessions were cryopreserved, and their explants were derived from in vitro plants.

The assessment of hemineglect syndrome with cancellation tasks. A comparison between the bells test and the Apples test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Unilateral spatial neglect (USN) is a frequent consequence of acquired brain injury, especially following right hemisphere damage. Traditionally, unilateral spatial neglect is assessed with cancellation tests such as the Bells test.

Influence of variety, storage, and simulated gastrointestinal digestion on chemical composition and bioactivity of polysaccharides from sweet cherry and apple tree fruits

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture, 2015
This work examined the effect of extraction regime (hot water vs. simulated in vitro gastrointestinal digestion) and postharvest storage on the chemical composition, molecular weight, and bioactive properties of polysaccharides obtained from sweet ...

Higher Amyloid and Tau Burden Is Associated With Faster Decline on a Digital Cognitive Test

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective A 2‐min digital clock‐drawing test (DCTclock) captures more granular features of the clock‐drawing process than the pencil‐and‐paper clock‐drawing test, revealing more subtle deficits at the preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD). A previous cross‐sectional study demonstrated that worse DCTclock performance was associated with

Studies of Inhibitory Effects of p-Coumaric Acid, Kojic Acid and Chlorogenic Acid on Different Forms of Polyphenol Oxidase from Apple

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
Apple often contains two forms of polyphenol oxidase (PPO), including membrane-bound polyphenol oxidase (mPPO) and soluble polyphenol oxidase (sPPO). These two forms differ in their enzymatic properties and structural characteristics. In this study, sPPO

Defensive reactions of apple cultivars Angold and HL 1834 after fungal infection

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2011
Apple cultivars (Malus domestica Borkh.) were inoculated with a significant apple fruit fungal pathogen, Monilinia fructigena Honey ex Whetzel. Defensive reactions, especially enzyme activity and production of phenolic compounds, were compared.

Bio‐Orthogonally Crosslinked Supramolecular Polymer Bottlebrush Hydrogels for Long‐Term 3D Cell Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fibrous benzenetrispeptide (BTP) hydrogels, fabricated via strain‐promoted azide‐alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC) crosslinking, form robust, bioinert networks. These hydrogels can support 3D cell culture, where cell viability and colony growth depend on the fiber content.

Ultrasound‐Triggered Gelation for Restoring Biomechanical Properties of Degenerated Functional Spinal Units

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an innovative approach to treating intervertebral disc degeneration using ultrasound‐triggered in situ hydrogel formation. Proof‐of‐concept experiments using optimized biomaterial and ultrasound parameters demonstrate partial restoration of biomechanical function and successful integration into degenerated disc tissue, offering a ...

Development of engineering design tools to help reduce apple bruising [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A large percentage of apples are wasted each year due to damage such as bruising. The apple journey from orchard to supermarket is very complex and apples are subjected to a variety of static and dynamic loads that could result in this damage occurring ...

Precise Control of Drug Release in Machine Learning‐Designed Antibody‐Eluting Implants for Postoperative Scarring Inhibition in Glaucoma

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a micro‐sized, biocompatible implant for postoperative sustained delivery of anti‐fibrotic antibodies in glaucoma surgery. Machine learning‐guided optimization of polymer composition, implant geometry, and porosity enabled precise control of drug release.
