Subclass problem-dependent design for error-correcting output codes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A common way to model multiclass classification problems is by means of Error-Correcting Output Codes (ECOCs). Given a multiclass problem, the ECOC technique designs a code word for each class, where each position of the code identifies the membership of

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Stochastic simulation of woven composites forming [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A stochastic forming simulation procedure is developed and implemented to investigate the effect of geometric variability in pre-impregnated woven textiles on manufacturing. Image analysis is used to characterise variability in tow directions and unit

Sample Size Requirements of a Pharmaceutical Material Library: A Case in Predicting Direct Compression Tablet Tensile Strength by Latent Variable Modeling

open access: yesPharmaceutics
The material library is an emerging, new data-driven approach for developing pharmaceutical process models. How many materials or samples should be involved in a particular application scenario is unclear, and the impact of sample size on process ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Numerical analysis of the hydrodynamic behaviour of immiscible metallic alloys in twin-screw rheomixing process

open access: yes, 2006
A numerical analysis by a VOF method is presented for studying the hydrodynamic mechanisms of the rheomixing process by a twin-screw extruder (TSE). The simplified flow field is established based on a systematic analysis of flow features of immiscible ...

Drug Effect Unveils Inter-head Cooperativity and Strain-dependent ADP Release in Fast Skeletal Actomyosin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Amrinone is a bipyridine compound with characteristic effects on the force-velocity relationship of fast skeletal muscle, including a reduction in the maximum shortening velocity and increased maximum isometric force.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Upper Limb Orthoses: Integrating Topology Optimization and 3D Printing for Custom Fit and Function

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Customized wrist splints, particularly for upper extremity orthoses like wrist support braces, are commonly used across numerous clinical scenarios. However, the traditional process for producing personalized wrist splints is largely manual and highly ...
