Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Time Series Modeling with Duration Dependent Markov-Switching Vector Autoregressions: MCMC Inference, Software and Applications [PDF]

open access: yes
Duration dependent Markov-switching VAR (DDMS-VAR) models are time series models with data generating process consisting in a mixture of two VAR processes, which switches according to a two-state Markov chain with transition probabilities depending on ...

APPLICATION OF TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENT THERMAL PROPERTIES IN FOOD THERMAL PROCESS SIMULATION AND SELECTION OF PRODUCT FORMULATION

open access: yes, 2019
Mathematical modeling of heat transfer is a common method utilized in designing thermal processes for food, modeling degradation kinetics of microorganisms and nutrients, designing food processing equipment as well as for process optimization and for ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Ablative Laser Structuring for Stretchable Multilayer and Multi-Material Electronics and Sensor Systems

open access: yesProceedings, 2020
Conventional machining and shaping processes for polymers and elastomers such as injection molding exhibit significant disadvantages, as specific tools have to be manufactured, the method of machining is highly dependent on the material properties, and ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

A thermochemical approach for calcium phosphate precipitation modeling in a pellet reactor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A common pathway for P-recovery from wastewater is phosphate precipitation as calcium phosphates. In this paper, a thermodynamic model for phosphate precipitation is proposed based on various models of activity coefficients taking into account various ...

Compression deformation behaviors of sheet metals at various clearances and side forces

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2015
Modeling sheet metal forming operations requires understanding of plastic behaviors of sheet metals along non-proportional strain paths. The plastic behavior under reversed uniaxial loading is of particular interest because of its simplicity of ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
