The maternal and early embryonic transcriptome of the milkweed bug Oncopeltus fasciatus

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2011
Background Most evolutionary developmental biology ("evo-devo") studies of emerging model organisms focus on small numbers of candidate genes cloned individually using degenerate PCR.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Synthetic Strategies for Bioactive Oligosaccharides

open access: yesBiomolecules
Carbohydrates are essential constituents of numerous biological systems, playing key roles in fundamental processes such as cellular recognition and immunological responses, while also offering significant potential in medical diagnostics and ...

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Poly(Lactic Acid) Processability Treatment Through Electron Beam Irradiation: Optimization of Dose and Crosslinking Agent Amount

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering
Poly(lactic acid) (PLA), a polymer derived from renewable resources, is an increasingly popular choice for packaging. However, its inherently low melt strength, due to its linear molecular structure, limits its performance in processes such as foaming ...

Application of Space-time Harmonic Functions to Branching Processes

open access: yesThe Annals of Probability, 1975
In attempting to determine the growth properties of a branching process (b.p.), a standard method of attack is to look for the appropriate martingale. Here we show that for many b.p., this really corresponds to looking for the harmonic functions associated with the space-time process. As a particular application of the above we show that in the case of

Saddlepoint Approximations to the Moments of Multitype Age‐Dependent Branching Processes, with Applications [PDF]

open access: yesBiometrics, 2010
SummaryThis article proposes saddlepoint approximations to the expectation and variance–covariance function of multitype age‐dependent branching processes. The proposed approximations are found accurate, easy to implement, and much faster to compute than by simulating the process.

The simple harmonic urn

open access: yes, 2011
We study a generalized Polya urn model with two types of ball. If the drawn ball is red it is replaced together with a black ball, but if the drawn ball is black it is replaced and a red ball is thrown out of the urn.

Infinitely ramified point measures and branching Lévy processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
International audienceWe call a random point measure infinitely ramified if for every n ∈ N, it has the same distribution as the n-th generation of some branching random walk.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.
