Structured Low-rank Approximation as a Rational Function Minimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Many problems of system identification, model reduction and signal processing can be posed and solved as a structured low-rank approximation problem (SLRA).

Don't Just Go with the Flow: Cautionary Tales of Fluid Flow Approximation

open access: yes, 2012
Fluid flow approximation allows efficient analysis of large scale PEPA models. Given a model, this method outputs how the mean, variance, and any other moment of the model’s stochastic behaviour evolves as a function of time.

Bi-Fuzzy S-Approximation Spaces

open access: yesMathematics
The S-approximation spaces are significant extension of the rough set model and have been widely applied in intelligent decision-making. However, traditional S-approximation spaces are limited to two crisp universes, whereas bi-fuzzy universes (i.e., two

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Efficient Likelihood Evaluation of State-Space Representations [PDF]

open access: yes
We develop a numerical procedure that facilitates efficient likelihood evaluation in applications involving non-linear and non-Gaussian state-space models.

Uncertainty quantification and weak approximation of an elliptic inverse problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We consider the inverse problem of determining the permeability from the pressure in a Darcy model of flow in a porous medium. Mathematically the problem is to find the diffusion coefficient for a linear uniformly elliptic partial differential equation ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

SDE WEAK APPROXIMATION LIBRARY (SDE WA) (VERSION 1.0) [PDF]

open access: yes
In application of mathematical finance to practical problems, weak approximation of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) is one of the most important themes. In probabilistic approach to this problem, the Euler-Maruyama scheme which is a first-order ...
