Consumer diversity drives stronger predation in tropical marine communities

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Biotic interactions are predicted to be stronger in the tropics compared to higher latitudes, contributing to observed patterns of global biodiversity. While increased consumer diversity and more complex food webs are expected in tropical communities, the trophic dynamics underlying strong regional effects of predation are not well understood.

Enemy release: loss of parasites in invasive freshwater bivalves Sinanodonta woodiana and Corbicula fluminea

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Invasive freshwater bivalves harm native species, ecosystems and biodiversity, and incur economic costs. The enemy release hypothesis posits that invasive species are released from enemies during the invasion process, giving them a competitive advantage in the new environment.

Can Catfish Aquaculture be Profitable in Farm Ponds? [PDF]

open access: yes
Extensive channel catfish farming is a means of utilizing farm ponds for aquaculture production for either supplementary income of home use. This involves stocking catfish at sufficiently low densities such that a pond is able to assimilate excess feed ...

Life cycle assessment of intensive striped catfish farming in the Mekong Delta for screening hotspots as input to environmental policy and research agenda [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Purpose Intensive striped catfish production in the Mekong Delta has, in recent years, raised environmental concerns. We conducted a stakeholder-based screening life cycle assessment (LCA) of the intensive farming system to determine the critical ...

Carbon‐Negative Upcycling of Sewage Sludge into Superiorly Stable Gel Via Liquid‐Phase Utilization Strategy for Water‐Remediation

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This work developed a low‐temperature sludge hydrothermal coupled with gel crosslinking strategy which could upgrade the waste liquid generated from sewage sludge hydrothermal treatment into the hydrothermal‐liquid‐gel. The inventive hydrothermal‐liquid‐gel exhibited the enhanced pollutant removal capability, high synthetic stability, and superior ...

Integration of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 for temporal identification of aquacultural ponds

open access: yesResults in Earth Sciences
Accurate classification of ponds under aquaculture practices (AP) and not under aquaculture practices (NAP) is essential for effective monitoring and sustainable management practices.
