Controlled aquaporin-2 expression in the hypertonic environment [PDF]
The corticomedullary osmolality gradient is the driving force for water reabsorption occurring in the kidney. In the collecting duct, this gradient allows luminal water to move across aquaporin (AQP) water channels, thereby increasing urine concentration. However, this same gradient exposes renal cells to great osmotic challenges.

The role of microglia has emerged as a critical driver of disease progression in multiple sclerosis (MS), but we lack broadly applicable monitoring tools. Here, we investigated whether hyperreflective foci (HRF), as detected by optical coherence tomography (OCT) within the inner nuclear layer (INL) of the retina, can be used as a marker for microglial ...

Targeted positioning of water channel aquaporin-2 (AQP2) strictly regulates body water homeostasis. Trafficking of AQP2 to the apical membrane is critical for the reabsorption of water in renal collecting ducts.

Genome-wide analysis to predict protein sequence variations that change phosphorylation sites or their corresponding kinases [PDF]
We define phosphovariants as genetic variations that change phosphorylation sites or their interacting kinases. Considering the essential role of phosphorylation in protein functions, it is highly likely that phosphovariants change protein functions and ...

Increased CSF aquaporin-4, and interleukin-6 levels in dogs with idiopathic communicating internal hydrocephalus and a decrease after ventriculo-peritoneal shunting [PDF]
Background: Studies in animal models, in which internal hydrocephalus has been induced by obstructing the cerebrospinal fluid pathways, have documented an up-regulation of the concentrations of aquaporin-4 (AQP4) in the brain.

AQP2 is Necessary for Vasopressin- and Forskolin-Mediated Filamentous Actin Depolymerization in Renal Epithelial Cells [PDF]
Remodeling of the actin cytoskeleton is required for vasopressin (VP)‐induced aquaporin 2 (AQP2) trafficking. Here, we asked whether VP and forskolin (FK)‐mediated F‐actin depolymerization depends on AQP2 expression.

Abstract Premise There is a knowledge gap regarding how foliar injury and restricted water uptake can be detected by measuring root dielectric response. This pot study nondestructively evaluated the efficiency of real‐time dielectric measurement to monitor the effects of glyphosate spraying.

The Aquaporin Channel Repertoire of the Tardigrade
Limno-terrestrial tardigrades are small invertebrates that are subjected to periodic drought of their micro-environment. They have evolved to cope with these unfavorable conditions by anhydrobiosis, an ametabolic state of low cellular water.
