The three-dimensional structure of aquaporin-1

Nature, 1997
The entry and exit of water from cells is a fundamental process of life. Recognition of the high water permeability of red blood cells led to the proposal that specialized water pores exist in the plasma membrane. Expression in Xenopus oocytes and functional studies of an erythrocyte integral membrane protein of relative molecular mass 28,000 ...

Aquaporins in complex tissues: distribution of aquaporins 1–5 in human and rat eye

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1998
Multiple physiological fluid movements are involved in vision. Here we define the cellular and subcellular sites of aquaporin (AQP) water transport proteins in human and rat eyes by immunoblotting, high-resolution immunocytochemistry, and immunoelectron microscopy.

Identification of Aquaporin 1 in Diplodus sargus

2013
Aquaporin 1 (AQP-1) is the first member of the aquaporin family, which includes seven homologs in teleosts, involved in the selective transport of water, small neutral molecules, and ions. AQPs contain six transmembrane helices, five connecting loops, and the amino and carboxyl ends protrude into the cytoplasm.

Selective Permeability of Truncated Aquaporin 1 in Silico

ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering, 2017
Aquaporin (AQP) proteins function as highly efficient water transport channels that support homeostasis in many types of living cells. Their structure-function relationships have been characterized extensively in fundamental and applied research, primarily via structural analysis, mutational studies, and computational approaches.

Diagnostic significance of aquaporin-1 in liver tumors

Human Pathology, 2005
The diagnostic utility of aquaporin (AQP)-1 in liver tumors was tested and compared with other well-established markers. In 30 cholangiocarcinomas (CCs), 20 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), and 10 metastatic colorectal carcinomas (MCCs) of the liver, expression of AQP-1, CD10, cytokeratin (CK) 7, CK20, and polyclonal carcinoembryonic antigen (pCEA ...

Length of the selectivity filter of aquaporin‐1*

Biology of the Cell, 1997
We have characterized the selectivity filter of the water channel aquaporin‐1 (AQP1) of proximal straight tubules (PST), as an equivalent cylindrical structure with a diameter of ∼ 4.5 Å, where water molecules single file. We report here efforts to evaluate its length.

Bacopaside I, acting as an aquaporin 1 inhibitor, ameliorates rheumatoid arthritis via suppressing aquaporin 1-mediated autophagy

Phytomedicine
Aquaporin 1 (AQP1) is a promising target for regulating fibroblast-like synoviocyte (FLS) behaviors in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Bacopaside I (BSI), the main active compound of the herbal medicine Bacopa monnieri with anti-RA effects, inhibits tumor cell growth by blocking AQP1, but its potential use in RA is unclear. To address BSI's anti-RA effects ...

Role of aquaporin 1 in fetal fluid homeostasis

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2013
The homeostasis of maternal-fetal fluid exchange is critically important in pregnancy. We sought to investigate the function of aquaporin 1 (AQP1) during pregnancy by examining fluid compartments of AQP1 knockout (AQP1-KO) mice.Homozygous pregnant AQP1 knockout (KO) mice and control pregnant wild type CD1 mice were sacrificed.

[Expression of aquaporin 1 and aquaporin 4 in rat laryngeal tissue].

Lin chuang er bi yan hou ke za zhi = Journal of clinical otorhinolaryngology, 2011
To detect expression level and distribution of aquaporin 1(AQP1) and aquaporin 4 (AQP4) in rat laryngeal tissues and try to find out significance about aquaporin in the laryngeal function and mechanism on the laryngeal diseases.Eight cases laryngeal tissues were obtained from normal wistar rats.

[Significance of aquaporin-1 and aquaporin-3 expression in colorectal carcinoma].

Zhonghua wei chang wai ke za zhi = Chinese journal of gastrointestinal surgery, 2013
To investigate the significance of aquaporin-1(AQP-1) and aquaporin-3(AQP-3) in the development of colorectal carcinoma. The expression of AQP-1 and AQP-3 was investigated using immunohistochemical staining with Streptavidin Peroxidase in tissues from colorectal adenoma (CRA, n=25), colorectal cancer (CRC, n=50), and adjacent mucosa (CRT, n=50).The ...
