A cationic polyacrylamide dispersion synthesis by dispersion polymerization in aqueous solution

open access: yesBioResources, 2011
A cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) dispersion, the copolymer of acrylamide (AM) and acryloyloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DAC), has been synthesized through dispersion polymerization in aqueous ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4) solution. The polymerization was initiated by tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) and ferrisulfas (FeSO4) using poly(dimethyl ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Hierarchy of Electrorheological Responses in Aqueous Smectite Clay Dispersions in Relation to DLVO Potential Barriers

open access: yesEng
This study systematically investigated the electrorheological (ER) behavior of four aqueous smectite clay dispersions—fluorinated hectorite (Ht-F), stevensite (Stv), hectorite (Ht), and saponite (Sap)—with emphasis on transparency, rheological responses,

Studies on the absorption of beta-carotene and the distribution of total carotenoid in human serum lipoproteins after oral administration*

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1962
The carotenoid increment in human serum was measured after the oral administration of aqueous dispersions and lipid dispersions of β-carotene with different test meal regimens. β-carotene was readily absorbed in both forms.

Effects of impurities on particle sizing by acoustic attenuation spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
It is important to have correct information regarding particle size in order to interpret, control, and optimize many industrial processes. Prior to the recent advent of acoustic attenuation spectroscopy, it was difficult to study particle size ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Flexible aromatic disulfide monomers for high-performance self-healable linear and cross-linked poly(urethane-urea) coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Implementation of the self-healing concept in coatings is challenging because they have to combine mechanical strength and chain mobility. This challenge is addressed in this work by studying the effect of the polymer microstructure on the mechanical ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Investigation of Stabilized Amorphous Solid Dispersions to Improve Oral Olaparib Absorption

open access: yesPharmaceutics
In this study, we investigated the formulation of stable solid dispersions to enhance the bioavailability of olaparib (OLA), a therapeutic agent for ovarian cancer and breast cancer characterized as a BCS class IV drug with low solubility and low ...

Colloidal Stability of Positively Charged Dispersions of Styrene and Acrylic Copolymers in the Presence of TiO2 and CaCO3

open access: yesColloids and Interfaces, 2019
Increasing antibiotic resistance of several pathogenic microorganisms calls for alternative approaches to prevent spreading of bacterial diseases. We propose to employ for this purpose coatings obtained from positively charged latex dispersions.
