Electrolyte Interphases in Aqueous Batteries
Angewandte Chemie, 2023AbstractThe narrow electrochemical stability window of water poses a challenge to the development of aqueous electrolytes. In contrast to non‐aqueous electrolytes, the products of water electrolysis do not contribute to the formation of a passivation layer on electrodes.

Strengthening Aqueous Electrolytes without Strengthening Water
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2023AbstractAqueous electrolytes typically suffer from poor electrochemical stability; however, eutectic aqueous solutions—25 wt.% LiCl and 62 wt.% H3PO4—cooled to −78 °C exhibit a significantly widened stability window. Integrated experimental and simulation results reveal that, upon cooling, Li+ ions become less hydrated and pair up with Cl−, ice‐like ...

In dealing with the thermodynamic properties of ions we have one difficulty in addition to those encountered in dealing with compounds and elements. For compounds and elements we found that although we could measure absolute values for some properties, others such as enthalpy and the other energy terms contained an undetermined constant.

We begin this chapter with a brief review of design improvements aimed at making batteries more abuse resistant and safe for users, and we then discuss some of the safety precautions that users need to take to prevent accidents. With few exceptions, most of the design improvements we mention have already been incorporated into batteries where necessary.

Despite the growing interest in advanced lithium batteries, the overwhelming majority of batteries manufactured today are still based on aqueous electrolytes, mostly sulphuric acid or potassium hydroxide solution. The ubiquitous lead acid battery is, after 150 years, still being improved as regards its design and materials of construction. Rechargeable

Dielectric spectroscopy on aqueous electrolytic solutions
Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 2008In this work, detailed dielectric measurements are presented on aqueous electrolytic solutions of NaCl and KCl in a broad frequency range, typical for modern telecommunication techniques. The complex dielectric permittivity or equivalently the complex conductivity are systematically studied as function of frequency (100 MHz-40 GHz), temperature (10-60 ...

Initial Electrospreading of Aqueous Electrolyte Drops
Physical Review Letters, 2013The early spreading of a liquid drop on a solid surface driven by inertial, capillary, and electrostatic forces is of fundamental interest, since most commonly used surfaces are (naturally) charged. We studied the effect of applying an electric potential between a drop and a surface on the early spreading of aqueous electrolyte drops.
