Age-related changes of vitamin C levels in aqueous humour [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2015
Background/Aim. Age-related cataract is a common disease among senior population. Vitamin C is the most effective reducing hydrosoluble antioxidant causing reduction in the levels of free radicals in crystaline lens. The aim of this study was to

Expression profiling of ascorbic acid–related transporters in human and mouse eyes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
PURPOSE: Ascorbic acid (AsA) is an important antioxidant in the eye. Ascorbic acid is usually transported by sodium-dependent AsA transporters (SVCTs), and dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) by glucose transporters (GLUTs).

Aqueous humor dynamics in human eyes: a lattice Boltzmann study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
This paper presents a lattice Boltzmann model to simulate the aqueous humor (AH) dynamics in the human eyes by involving incompressible Navier-Stokes flow, heat convection and diffusion, and Darcy seepage flow. Verifying simulations indicate that the model is stable, convergent and robust.

Pharmacogenetics of ophthalmic topical β-blockers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. The primary glaucoma risk factor is elevated intraocular pressure. Topical β-blockers are affordable and widely used to lower intraocular pressure.

Model of inverse bleb growth explains giant vacuole dynamics during cell mechanoadaptation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Cells can withstand hostile environmental conditions manifest as large mechanical forces such as pressure gradients and/or shear stresses by dynamically changing their shape. Such conditions are realized in the Schlemm's canal of the eye where endothelial cells that cover the inner vessel wall are subjected to the hydrodynamic pressure gradients ...

The ATM Kinase Inhibitor AZD0156 Is a Potent Inhibitor of Plasmodium Phosphatidylinositol 4‐Kinase (PI4Kβ) and Is an Attractive Candidate for Medicinal Chemistry Optimization Against Malaria

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
AZD0156, an ATM kinase inhibitor in clinical development, shows promising multistage antiplasmodial activity by targeting Plasmodium falciparum phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase (PfPI4Kβ). With an improved specificity profile relative to other PfPI4Kβ inhibitors and moderate efficacy in a P.

This joke is [MASK]: Recognizing Humor and Offense with Prompting [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Humor is a magnetic component in everyday human interactions and communications. Computationally modeling humor enables NLP systems to entertain and engage with users. We investigate the effectiveness of prompting, a new transfer learning paradigm for NLP, for humor recognition.

A large multi-ethnic genome-wide association study identifies novel genetic loci for intraocular pressure. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is a major risk factor for glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness. IOP heritability has been estimated to up to 67%, and to date only 11 IOP loci have been reported, accounting for 1.5% of IOP variability.

Engineering a Multifunctional Nanozyme Platform for Synergistic Melanoma Therapy: Integrating Enzyme Activity, Immune Activation, and Low‐Temperature Photothermal Effects

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This study innovatively develops a multifunctional, multienzyme‐active nanoplatform (FeCP@PDA‐GOx), aimed at overcoming the limitations of traditional cancer therapies and achieving precise, efficient, and long‐lasting melanoma treatment. By integrating starvation therapy, CDT, mPTT, and immunotherapy, FeCP@PDA‐GOx generates a multidimensional ...

Canaloplasty: current value in the management of glaucoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Canaloplasty is a nonpenetrating blebless surgical technique for open-angle glaucoma, in which a flexible microcatheter is inserted within Schlemm's canal for the entire 360 degrees. When the microcatheter exits the opposite end, a 10-0 prolene suture is
