Field Emission Dark Current of Technical Metallic Electrodes
In the framework of the Low Emittance Gun (LEG) project, high gradient acceleration of a low emittance electron beam will be necessary. In order to achieve this acceleration a -500 kV, 250 ns FWHM, pulse will be applied in between two electrodes.

Analysis of Arc Re-Ignition in Vacuum Interrupter-Based HVdc Circuit Breakers
The protection of HVdc systems has long been challenged by the absence of natural current zero-crossing, typically addressed using L-C branches. However, the phenomenon of multiple arc reignitions in vacuum interrupter (VI) based HVdc circuit breakers ...

Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.

Effects of arcing due to spacecraft charging on spacecraft survival [PDF]
A quantitative assessment of the hazard associated with spacecraft charging and arcing on spacecraft systems is presented. A literature survey on arc discharge thresholds and characteristics was done and gaps in the data and requirements for additional ...

Comment: Boosting Algorithms: Regularization, Prediction and Model Fitting
The authors are doing the readers of Statistical Science a true service with a well-written and up-to-date overview of boosting that originated with the seminal algorithms of Freund and Schapire. Equally, we are grateful for high-level software that will

Ultrathin graphitic structures and carbon nanotubes in a purified synthetic graphite [PDF]
A new class of carbon structure is reported, which consists of microscale graphitic shells bounded by curved and faceted planes containing two to five layers. These structures were originally found in a commercial graphite produced by the Acheson process,

Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the
