Anesthetic and analgesic management of Svalbard rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta hyperborea) undergoing experimental stereotaxic neurosurgery

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Background Stereotaxic neurosurgery in animal models has become a prominent experimental technique in many areas of science and research. These approaches, however, require advanced surgical skills, meticulous anesthetic protocols, and thorough analgesic

Influence of sea surface temperature in the tropics on the Antarctic sea ice under global warming

open access: yesЛëд и снег, 2019
Sea ice fields in the Antarctic, in contrast to the Arctic ones, did not show a reduction in observed global warming, whereas the global climate models indicate its certain decrease.

Microsatellite loci among Alaskan rabies hosts: Arctic and red fox [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Little is known about the population dynamics between Arctic and red foxes in Alaska and consequences for rabies ecology. Both species carry different variants of rabies and inhabit different environments.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Bioelectrical brain activity in students during cognitive activity under time limitation

open access: yesSiberian Journal of Life Sciences and Agriculture
Background. Time-constrained cognitive activity is regarded as activity under stress. Students in the educational process often face the need of solving learning tasks in a short time. The study of bioelectrical brain activity according to the parameters

Arctic architectures [PDF]

open access: yesPolar Record, 2016
ABSTRACTIn 1968, the British/Swedish architect Ralph Erskine published an article ‘Architecture and town planning in the north’ in this journal, in which he called for a particular Arctic approach to the design of buildings and cities that is distinct from mainstream architecture due to conditions such as harsh climate, resident indigenous or sparse ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Edible Gelatin Films from Cold Water Fish Skin and Sodium Alginate

open access: yesТехника и технология пищевых производств
Synthetic food packaging remains a looming environmental hazard. Biodegradable alternatives from renewable natural raw materials may be a solution to this problem. Edible packaging films can be produced from fish waste gelatin and seaweed sodium alginate.

Persistent pain associated with socioeconomic and personal factors in a Sami and Non-Sami population in Norway: an analysis of SAMINOR 2 survey data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Circumpolar Health, 2020
In international studies, higher prevalence of persistent pain has been reported in indigenous populations compared to majority populations. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of persistent pain within a Sami and a non-Sami population in
