Towards the Optimal Management of the Northeast Arctic Cod Fishery [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2011
The objectives pursued by governments managing fisheries may include maximizing profits, minimizing the impact on the marine ecosystem, or securing employment, which all require adjusting the composition of the fishing fleet. We develop a management plan that can be adapted to those objectives and allows the regulator to compare the long-run profits ...

Impact of freshwater on a subarctic coastal ecosystem under seasonal sea ice (southeastern Hudson Bay, Canada) : 3. Feeding success of marine fish larvae [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We monitored the feeding success (percent feeding incidence at length and mean feeding ratio at length) of Arctic cod (#Boreogadus saida$) and sand lance (#Ammodytes$ sp.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Disjunct Lake Michigan Populations of Two Atlantic Coast Spiders, \u3ci\u3eDisembolus Bairdi\u3c/i\u3e and \u3ci\u3eGrammonota Pallipes\u3c/i\u3e (Araneae: Linyphiidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Two species of linyphiid spiders, Disembolus bairdi Edwards, 1999 and Grammonota pallipes Banks, 1895, were discovered along the southwestern coast of Lake Michigan in Lake County, Illinois representing an Atlantic Coastal Plain disjunct distribution.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Mesopelagic Sound Scattering Layers of the High Arctic: Seasonal Variations in Biomass, Species Assemblage, and Trophic Relationships

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Mesopelagic sound scattering layers (SSL) are ubiquitous in all oceans. Pelagic organisms within the SSL play important roles as prey for higher trophic levels and in climate regulation through the biological carbon pump.

Acclimation potential of Arctic cod (Boreogadus saida Lepechin) from the rapidly warming Arctic Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2016
In consequence of the growing concern with warming of the Arctic Ocean, this study quantified the thermal acclimation responses of Boreogadus saida, a key Arctic food web fish. Physiological rates for cardio-respiratory functions as well as critical maximum temperature (Tcmax) for loss of equilibrium (LOE) were measured. The transition temperatures for

Ecosystem-based Management for Protected Species in the North Pacific Fisheries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the North Pacific Ocean, an ecosystem-based fishery management approach has been adopted. A significant objective of this approach is to reduce interactions between fishery-related activities and protected species.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
