The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Unprecedented fire activity above the Arctic Circle linked to rising temperatures

open access: yesScience, 2022
Arctic fires can release large amounts of carbon from permafrost peatlands. Satellite observations reveal that fires burned ~4.7 million hectares in 2019 and 2020, accounting for 44% of the total burned area in the Siberian Arctic for the entire 1982 ...

The influence of climate and hydrological variables on opposite anomaly in active-layer thickness between Eurasian and North American watersheds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study not only examined the spatiotemporal variations of active-layer thickness (ALT) in permafrost regions during 1948-2006 over the terrestrial Arctic regions experiencing climate changes, but also identified the associated drivers based on ...

Day Auroras in the Arctic Regions [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1871
I CAN now answer Dr. Burder's question regarding the appearance of the Aurora Borealis in the Arctic Regions. The other evening (last Thursday) I had a conversation with a distinguished magnetician and Arctic explorer, and he informed me that he has often seen the Aurora in broad daylight in those regions, the colour invariably being crimson.
