Interactions of galanin and opioids in nociceptive modulation in the arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus in rats

Regulatory Peptides, 2005
The fact that galanin, beta-endorphin and their receptors are present in the arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus (ARC), coupled with our previous observation that both beta-endorphin and galanin play antinociceptive roles in pain modulation in the ARC, made it of interest to study their interactions.

Arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus is involved in mediating the satiety effect of electroacupuncture in obese rats

Peptides, 2011
Obesity is a major health problem in the world. Since effective remedies are rare, researchers are trying to discover new therapies for obesity, and acupuncture is among the most popular alternative approaches. This study investigated the anti-obesity mechanisms of EA, using a rat model of diet-induced obesity.

Involvement of galanin in nociceptive regulation in the arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus in rats with mononeuropathy

Behavioural Brain Research, 2007
The hindpaw withdrawal latencies (HWLs) to noxious thermal and mechanical stimulation increased significantly after intra-hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARC) injection of galanin in mononeuropathic rats, while intra-ARC injection of the putative antagonist of galanin receptors markedly reduced the HWLs.

Reduction of insulin binding in the arcuate nucleus of the rat hypothalamus after 6-hydroxydopamine treatment

Brain Research, 1989
Insulin receptors are present in the hypothalamus, but the cell types bearing them are unknown. In order to test the hypothesis that some insulin receptors in the hypothalamus are associated with catecholamine terminals, rats were injected with 50 micrograms or 75 micrograms doses (intracerebroventricular) of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA).

Angiotensin-(1-7) activates proopiomelanocortin neurons in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus

Physiology
Obesity is a global epidemic that reflects a chronic state of energy imbalance. There is critical need to better understand integrative mechanisms of obesity and related cardiovascular complications to develop more targeted therapies with mitigated adverse effects.

Blood supply of the rat hypothalamus. IV. Retrochiasmatic area, median eminence, arcuate nucleus.

Acta morphologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae, 1978
The vascular supply of the rat hypothalamo-hypophyseal complex was studied by aid of a double injection technique (two dyes different in colour injected successively). The vascular bed of the median eminence, the arcuate nucleus, and the retrochiasmatic area are intimately interconnected among themselves, but isolated from the vascular system of all ...

Effect of melatonin on pro-opiomelanocortin mRNA expression in arcuate nucleus of rat hypothalamus.

Acta pharmacologica Sinica, 2001
To observe altered expression of pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) mRNA localized in neurons in the arcuate nucleus of rat hypothalamus following exogenous administration of melatonin. The experimental animals were divided into two groups injected i.p. with melatonin 90 mg.kg-1 and vehicle at 12 h interval (9:00 am and 9:00 pm).
