Engineering a Single Amino Acid Bionanozyme for Ultrasensitive Detection of Biomarkers: A WHO‐REASSURE‐ Aligned Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A unique 2D bionanozyme, engineered from a single amino acid and copper ions, demonstrates peroxidase‐mimicking catalytic activity. This efficient and simple bionanozyme allows for ultrasensitive, equipment‐free visual detection of key biomarkers in both test and real samples, meeting the WHO‐REASSURE standards for practical diagnostic applications ...

Sensitivity of Colorectal Cancer to Arginine Deprivation Therapy is Shaped by Differential Expression of Urea Cycle Enzymes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Tumors deficient in the urea cycle enzymes argininosuccinate synthase-1 (ASS1) and ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) are unable to synthesize arginine and can be targeted using arginine-deprivation therapy.

Arginine/Arginase NO NO NO [PDF]

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, 2006
Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid that plays a critical role in several metabolic pathways. The best known of these is as the immediate precursor of urea in the liver and to a lesser extent in the intestine.1 The enzyme responsible for the cleavage of arginine to produce urea is arginase, which is the only enzyme in the urea cycle that comes in ...

Transmembrane Activation of Catalysis and Protein Refolding in Synthetic Cells by Enzymes and Nanozymes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthetic cells are engineered herein to respond to an external chemical messenger by the activation of intracellular catalysis. The chemical messenger molecules are catalytically generated by an extracellular enzyme or a mineral surface, whereas the intracellular catalysis emerges via direct enzyme activation or via protein refolding.

Involvement of Nitric Oxide in Microcirculatory Reactions after Ischemia-Reperfusion of the Rat Urinary Bladder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Nitric oxide ( NO) plays a role in inflammation. Our aim was to investigate the role of NO in the microcirculatory changes after ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) of the bladder using intravital videomicroscopy (IVM).

Protein arginine methylation: an emerging regulator of the cell cycle

open access: yesCell Division, 2018
Protein arginine methylation is a common post-translational modification where a methyl group is added onto arginine residues of a protein to alter detection by its binding partners or regulate its activity.

Arginine thioacid in synthesis of arginine conjugates and peptides

open access: yesRSC Adv., 2014
Protected arginine thioacid enables convenient N-acylation with no detectable racemization. We report efficient syntheses of potentially biologically active arginine conjugates and novel arginine-containing di-, tri- and tetrapeptides in good yields without loss of chiral integrity.

High‐Throughput Microfluidic‐Mediated Assembly of Layer‐By‐Layer Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of polymer films on nanoparticle (NP) surfaces is a promising technique for targeted drug delivery. Despite its success in preclinical mouse models, a current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) compliant, clinical‐scale production method has been lacking.

3D Bioprinted Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) Model Using Tunicate Derived Nanocellulose (NC) Bioink

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
A 3D bioprinted HNSCC model for use in anti‐cancer drug testing is established in proof‐of‐concept. The innovative tunicate‐derived nanocellulose hydrogel proved to be a viable alternative to gelatin‐based hydrogel, offering improved bioprintability for HNSCC model establishment.

Effects of Dietary Methionine or Arginine Levels on the Urinary Creatinine Excretion in Broiler Chicks

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2017
Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the usefulness of urinary creatinine levels as a criterion for the estimation of protein and amino acid requirements in poultry. Here we studied the effects of dietary precursor levels of creatinine, methionine
