Identification of a C-type lectin from the bay scallop Argopecten irradians
Molecular Biology Reports, 2008C-type lectins are Ca(2+) dependent carbohydrate-recognition proteins that play crucial roles in the invertebrate innate immunity, such as nonself recognition, activation of proPO system, antibacterial activity, promotion of phagocytosis and nodule formation.

Many cells and organisms are rendered transiently resistant to lethal heat shock by short exposure to sublethal temperatures. This induced thermotolerance is thought to be related to increased amounts of heat shock proteins (HSPs) which, as molecular chaperones, protect cells from stress-induced damage.

Two different stocks (A and B) of the bay scallop Argopecten irradialls irradians (Lamarck, 1819) were used to test mass selection on growth. Stock A was a descending stock from the initial introduction from U.S.A. in 1982, which had been cultured in China for about 20 years. Stock B was the third generation from a recent introduction from U.S.A.

HETEROSIS BETWEEN TWO STOCKS OF THE BAY SCALLOP, ARGOPECTEN IRRADIANS IRRADIANS LAMARCK (1819)
Journal of Shellfish Research, 2006Abstract Heterosis between two stocks (A and B) of the bay scallop Argopecten irradians irradians (Lamarck, 1819) was studied by comparing performance in hatching success, larval survival, larval, spat and adult growth of reciprocal hybrid crosses (AB and BA) and that of two parental groups (AA and BB).

One-year-old bay scallops, Argopecten irradians irradians (58 ± 2 mm, 22 ± 1 g live weight) were exposed to four replicated photoperiod treatments (24D, 8L:16D, 16L:8D, and 24L where D = dark hours, L = light hours) in order to measure the effect on gonad weight and maturation during the conditioning process.

Epifaunal invertebrates as predators of juvenile bay scallops (Argopecten irradians)
Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 2014article i nfo Epifauna Mesograzers Predation Seagrass Predation strongly influences populations of numerous benthic invertebrates, although many predation studies to date have focused on macroscopic individuals, ignoring critical early life stages. Juveniles of the bay scallop, Argopecten irradians, settle and grow on the blades of eelgrass, Zostera ...

Three ferritin subunits involved in immune defense from bay scallop Argopecten irradians
Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2012Ferritin is a ubiquitous protein that plays an important role in iron storage and iron-withholding strategy of innate immunity. In this study, three genes encoding different ferritin subunits were cloned from bay scallop Argopecten irradians (AiFer1, AiFer2 and AiFer3) by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) approaches based on the known ESTs.

Crystalline Precipitates in Bay Scallops (Argopecten irradians) Imported from China
Journal of Aquatic Food Product Technology, 1994Macroscopic evaluations documented uncharacterized white spots in bay scallops (Argopecten irradians) to be a surface phenomenon, occupying scallop tissue only to a depth demarcated by translucent tissue, which is associated with salt solution penetration. Light microscopy characterized the white material to be crystalline in nature.
