Non-Contiguous Protein Recombination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Swapping sequence elements among related proteins can produce chimeric proteins with novel behaviors and improved properties such as enhanced stability. Although homologous mutations are much more conservative than random mutations, chimeras of distantly-

Determinants of selectivity in Xer site-specific recombination [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A remarkable property of some DNA-binding proteins that can interact with and pair distant DNA segments is that they mediate their biological function only when their binding sites are arranged in a specific configuration. Xer site-specific recombination

Study of the production and release of aromas during winemaking carried out by different Saccharomyces species and hybrids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Aroma is one of the most important attributes involved in wine quality. Current trend in winemaking consists of producing wines with different aroma nuances to offer variety of wines to a developing market.

Characterization of the key aroma compounds in four varieties of pomegranate juice by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, gas chromatography-olfactometry, odor activity value, aroma recombination, and omission tests

open access: yesFood Science and Human Wellness, 2023
Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) has attracted considerable attention in world markets due to its valuable nutrients and highly appreciated sensory properties. The aroma profiles of 4 varieties of pomegranate juice, including Dahongtian (DP), Jingpitian (

Recombination modulates how selection affects linked sites in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
One of the most influential observations in molecular evolution has been a strong association between regional recombination rate and amount of nucleotide polymorphism in those genomic regions, interpreted as evidence for ubiquitous natural selection ...

Characterization of Key Aroma Compounds in Xiaoqu Liquor and Their Contributions to the Sensory Flavor

open access: yesBeverages, 2020
The objective of this study was to investigate the aroma profile and major flavor compounds in Xiaoqu liquor by a combination of sensory profiling, GC-O/GC-MS analysis, and SBSE-GC-MS.

Lineage specific recombination rates and microevolution in Listeria monocytogenes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes is a saprotroph as well as an opportunistic human foodborne pathogen, which has previously been shown to consist of at least two widespread lineages (termed lineages I and II) and an uncommon lineage ...

Computer Aided Aroma Design. I. Molecular knowledge framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Computer Aided Aroma Design (CAAD) is likely to become a hot issue as the REACH EC document targets many aroma compounds to require substitution. The two crucial steps in CAMD are the generation of candidate molecules and the estimation of properties ...

Recombination in enteroviruses is a biphasic replicative process involving the generation of greater-than genome length 'imprecise' intermediates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Recombination in enteroviruses provides an evolutionary mechanism for acquiring extensive regions of novel sequence, is suggested to have a role in genotype diversity and is known to have been key to the emergence of novel neuropathogenic variants of ...

Genetic dissection of human ABCE1 in yeast reveals separable requirements for ribosome recycling and suppression of aberrant reinitiation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human ABCE1 cannot functionally replace its yeast ortholog. Yeast–human chimera analysis identified NBD1 as a major interspecies barrier. Genetic screening yielded hABCE1 revertants that rescue yeast viability but fail to suppress aberrant translation reinitiation in the 3′ UTR.
