Hemangiosarcoma of the third eyelid in a horse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare was referred to the equine clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Ghent University) for a mass on the third eyelid of the right eye. The horse had been having a recurrent red-tinged ocular discharge for several

Rotamer-Restricted Fluorogenicity Of The Bis-Arsenical ReAsH [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fluorogenic dyes such as FlAsH and ReAsH are used widely to localize, monitor, and characterize proteins and their assemblies in live cells. These bis-arsenical dyes can become fluorescent when bound to a protein containing four proximal Cys thiols—a ...

Bridging maternal effects and epitranscriptomics: A novel perspective in developmental biology

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Maternal effects, encompassing both genetic (maternally expressed gene products) and non‐genetic (maternal state) influences, are powerful determinants of offspring phenotype, yet their RNA‐level mechanisms remain incompletely resolved. In parallel, epitranscriptomics, an emerging field centered on chemical modifications to RNA, has revealed ...

Antibacterial Activity of Heteropolytungstates Against Proteus mirabilis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
We investigated the in vitro antibacterial activity of several heteropolytungstates against P. mirabilis, a drug‐resistant pathogen. All tested polyanions inhibited bacterial growth, with the Preyssler–Pope–Jeannin polyanion P5W30 exhibiting the highest activity (MIC = 0.78 mg/mL).

Trypanosoma brucei aquaglyceroporin 2 is a high-affinity transporter for pentamidine and melaminophenyl arsenic drugs and the main genetic determinant of resistance to these drugs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Objectives Trypanosoma brucei drug transporters include the TbAT1/P2 aminopurine transporter and the high-affinity pentamidine transporter (HAPT1), but the genetic identity of HAPT1 is unknown. We recently reported that loss of T. brucei aquaglyceroporin

A Novel Multi-Charged Draw Solute That Removes Organic Arsenicals from Water in a Hybrid Membrane Process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The potential of forward osmosis for water treatment can only be maximized with suitable draw solutes. Here a three-dimensional, multicharge draw solute of decasodium phytate (Na10-phytate) is designed and synthesized for removing organic arsenicals from

Chemical Composition, Amino Acids, Phenolic Profiles and Bioavailability of Minerals in Livingstone Potato (Plectranthus esculentus) as Affected by Different Processing Techniques

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Boiling retained the nutrients and polyphenol compounds in Plectranthus esculentus tubers better than frying or roasting. A bioavailability study showed that the phytates and oxalates in the tuber may not affect the bioavailabilities of calcium, zinc, or iron in Plectranthus esculentus tubers when eaten.

Toxicological Characterization of the Inorganic and Organic Arsenic Metabolite Thio-DMAV in Cultured Human Lung Cells

open access: yesJournal of Toxicology, 2011
We synthesised and toxicologically characterised the arsenic metabolite thiodimethylarsinic acid (thio-DMAV). Successful synthesis of highly pure thio-DMAV was confirmed by state-of-the-art analytical techniques including H1-NMR, HPLC-FTMS, and HPLC ...

Toxicological Evaluation of the Undesirable Components in Processed Infant Foods Using Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
The detection of toxins in baby food using artificial intelligence. ABSTRACT Infant foods and baby formulas are becoming increasingly popular across the globe owing to their ease of consumption and nutritional value specific to infants. Impurities may find their way into the food chain at any point from the acquisition of raw materials to final ...
