Health worker performance in the management of paediatric fevers following in-service training and exposure to job aids in Kenya. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
BACKGROUND: Improving the way artemether-lumefantrine (AL) is provided to patients attending clinics is critical to maximize the benefit of this new medicine.

A randomized trial of artemether-lumefantrine versus mefloquine-artesunate for the treatment of uncomplicated multi-drug resistant Plasmodium falciparum on the western border of Thailand

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2005
Background The use of antimalarial drug combinations with artemisinin derivatives is recommended to overcome drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum.

Therapeutic efficacy of artemether-lumefantrine for the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in four malaria endemic states of India

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2021
Background Malaria is a major public health problem in India and accounts for about 88% of malaria burden in South-East Asia. India alone accounted for 2% of total malaria cases globally.

Artemisinin‐Based Combination Therapies in East Africa: A Systematic Review of Quality, Clinical Efficacy, and Regulatory Progress Towards Sustainable Malaria Control

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, Volume 31, Issue 3, Page 254-273, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Malaria is a major public health issue in East Africa, leading to widespread illness and fatalities, especially among vulnerable populations such as children under 5 years of age and pregnant women. Artemisinin‐based combination therapies (ACTs) are the primary treatment modality; however, their efficacy is undermined by the ...

A Comparison of Pharmacokinetics of two Tablet Formulations Containing Artemether / Lumefantrine – Quality Criteria for Malaria Treatment Assurance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
\ud Treatment of non-severe malaria remains a challenge to endemic areas including Tanzania. Since November 2006, Coartem® an artemisinin based combination therapy (ACT) containing artemether-lumefantrine (ALu), replaced sulphadoxine/pyrimethamine (SP ...

Adherence to a Six-Dose Regimen of Artemether-Lumefantrine for Treatment of Uncomplicated Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria in Uganda. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Measuring baseline levels of adherence and identifying risk factors for non-adherence are important steps before the introduction of new antimalarials. In Mbarara in southwestern Uganda, we assessed adherence to artemether-lumefantrine (Coartem) in its ...

Antimalarial Polyethylene Glycol–Lumefantrine Conjugates: Synthesis and Effect of Linker Chemistry on Drug Release

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, Volume 9, Issue 2, February 2026.
Research into advanced therapeutics for malaria are rare. We investigate how linker chemistry governs the release kinetics of the antimalarial lumefantrine from polyethylene glycol conjugates. A clear correlation between diacid linker length and drug release rate is established, enabling rational design of conjugates with controlled release.

Artemether resistance in vitro is linked to mutations in PfATP6 that also interact with mutations in PfMDR1 in travellers returning with Plasmodium falciparum infections. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Monitoring resistance phenotypes for Plasmodium falciparum, using in vitro growth assays, and relating findings to parasite genotype has proved particularly challenging for the study of resistance to artemisinins.

Quantification of cure for pharmacodynamic models of antimalarial drugs: Deterministic versus stochastic approaches

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 92, Issue 1, Page 317-322, January 2026.
In silico pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic (PK–PD) models are used to inform dose optimisation in antimalarial drug development. Here the PK–PD models capture the change in parasite count over time because of exposure to antimalarial drug(s). For current deterministic PD models, simulated parasite numbers decline proportionally during treatment ...

Paediatric malaria case-management with artemether-lumefantrine in Zambia: a repeat cross-sectional study

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2007
Background Zambia was the first African country to change national antimalarial treatment policy to artemisinin-based combination therapy – artemether-lumefantrine.
