On the Metabolism of Carotenoids in the Crustacean Artemia salina

DEET‐cyclodextrin inclusion complexes for mosquito and tick repellency: Extended repellency time and no zebrafish embryotoxicity

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Hydroxypropyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (HPβCD)–N,N‐diethyl‐meta‐toluamide (DEET) complex extended tick repellency to 168 h. Full protection against Aedes aegypti for 7 h with HPβCD‐DEET. HPβCD reduced DEET release and skin retention significantly. No embryotoxicity observed below 325 mg L−1 in zebrafish model.

DEVELOPMENT OF ARTIFICIAL MEDIA FORARTEMIA SALINA

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1969
1. The 1959 undefined artificial medium for Artemia was simplified to a medium containing only defined ingredients: a liquid phase containing mineral salts, 6 amino acids, 5 nucleic acid components, 8 vitamins, 2 sugars, a pH buffer, and a fine particulate phase consisting of precipitated albumin, gelled rice starch, and cholesterol.

Rotenone Induces Morphological Damage and Reduction in Catecholamine Levels in the Central Nervous System of the Ascidian Styela plicata

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ascidians are invertebrates that occupy a key phylogenetic position as a sister group of the vertebrates. The organization of their central nervous system (CNS), with cortex and medulla, indicates a plesiomorphic character of the gray and white matter of vertebrates, making this group of animals useful for studies of neurodegenerative events ...

Artemia salina Toxicity Assay: Standardization in a 24‐Well Microplate

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bioassays with Artemia sp. are widely used in aquatic, environmental, and human toxicology as an initial tool to investigate the toxicity of plant extracts, isolated compounds, drugs, and products of natural or synthetic origin. These assays allow for the estimation of the median lethal concentration (LC50) and guide subsequent studies in ...
