ICTV Virus Taxonomy Profile: Arteriviridae 2021

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2021
The family Arteriviridae comprises enveloped RNA viruses with a linear, positive-sense genome of approximately 12.7 to 15.7 kb. The spherical, pleomorphic virions have a median diameter of 50–74 nm and include eight to eleven viral proteins. Arteriviruses infect non-human mammals in a vector-independent manner.

Differences in signal peptide processing between GP3 glycoproteins of Arteriviridae

open access: yesVirology, 2018
We reported previously that carbohydrate attachment to an overlapping glycosylation site adjacent to the signal peptide of GP3 from equine arteritis virus (EAV) prevents cleavage. Here we investigated whether this unusual processing scheme is a feature of GP3s of other Arteriviridae, which all contain a glycosylation site at a similar position ...

Modulation of innate immune signaling by nonstructural protein 1 (nsp1) in the family Arteriviridae

open access: yesVirus Research, 2014
Arteriviruses infect immune cells and may cause persistence in infected hosts. Inefficient induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I IFNs are observed during infection of this group of viruses, suggesting that they may have evolved to escape the host immune surveillance for efficient survival.

Family Arteriviridae

open access: yes, 2017
The family Arteriviridae is one of four families in the order Nidovirales. Arteriviruses are enveloped, plus-strand RNA viruses with genomes of 12.7–15.7 kb. The overall genome organization and gene expression strategy of the arteriviruses is highly similar to the coronaviruses.

Reorganization and expansion of the nidoviral family Arteriviridae [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Virology, 2015
The family Arteriviridae presently includes a single genus Arterivirus. This genus includes four species as the taxonomic homes for equine arteritis virus (EAV), lactate dehydrogenase-elevating virus (LDV), porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome virus (PRRSV), and simian hemorrhagic fever virus (SHFV), respectively.

Crystal Structure of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) Coronavirus Nucleocapsid Protein Dimerization Domain Reveals Evolutionary Linkage between Corona- and Arteriviridae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2006
The causative agent of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is the SARS-associated coronavirus, SARS-CoV. The nucleocapsid (N) protein plays an essential role in SARS-CoV genome packaging and virion assembly. We have previously shown that SARS-CoV N protein forms a dimer in solution through its C-terminal domain.
