Melatonin: Awakening the Defense Mechanisms during Plant Oxidative Stress

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Melatonin is a multifunctional signaling molecule that is ubiquitously distributed in different parts of a plant and responsible for stimulating several physio-chemical responses to adverse environmental conditions. In this review, we show that, although

Influence of salicylic acid on phytochelatin synthesis in Zea mays during Cd stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
: Presoaking maize (Zea mays) seeds in salicylic acid (SA) reduces damage caused by cadmium. In the present work the possible role of phytochelatins (PCs) in SA-mediated protection against Cd toxicity was investigated. Seeds were presoaked in 0.5 mM SA,

Biosynthesis of Kaitocephalin: A Neuroprotective Natural Product Featuring a Peptide‐Like yet Nonpeptidic Scaffold

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Kaitocephalin (KCP) is a neuroprotective fungal metabolite with a unique scaffold of amino acids linked via C–C bonds. Genome‐transcriptome analyses identified its biosynthetic gene cluster (kpb cluster) in Eupenicillium shearii. LC‐MS/MS profiling identified four new KCP‐related compounds.

H2O2 Signature and Innate Antioxidative Profile Make the Difference Between Sensitivity and Tolerance to Salt in Rice Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Salt tolerance is a complex trait that varies between and within species. H2O2 profiles as well as antioxidative systems have been investigated in the cultured cells of rice obtained from Italian rice varieties with different salt tolerance.

Exogenous Melatonin Delays Dark-Induced Grape Leaf Senescence by Regulation of Antioxidant System and Senescence Associated Genes (SAGs)

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Leaf senescence is a developmentally programmed and degenerative process which comprises the last stage of the life cycle of leaves. In order to understand the melatonin effect on grapevine leaf senescence, the dark treatment on detached leaves of Vitis ...

Responses of wheat and barley to Acacia saligna leaf and stem extracts: influence on growth and ascorbate-glutathione cycle

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2022
The present study aimed to study the effect of dry leaf and stem leachates of Acacia saligna on wheat’s growth and enzyme functioning (Triticum aestivum) and barley (Hordeum vulgare). Leaf leachates (LL) and stem leachates (SL) of A.

Exogenous Zeaxanthin Alleviates Low Temperature Combined with Low Light Induced Photosynthesis Inhibition and Oxidative Stress in Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) Plants

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology, 2022
Low temperature combined with low light (LL) affects crop production, especially the yield and quality of peppers, in northwest China during the winter and spring seasons. Zeaxanthin (Z) is a known lipid protectant and active oxygen scavenger.

Characteristics of the tomato chromoplast revealed by proteomic analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Chromoplasts are non-photosynthetic specialized plastids that are important in ripening tomato fruit (Solanum lycopersicum) since, among other functions, they are the site of accumulation of coloured compounds.

Ascorbate-Glutathione Cycle Alteration in Cadmium Sensitive Rice Mutant cadB-1

open access: yesRice Science, 2012
A rice cadmium (Cd) sensitive mutant cadB-1 was obtained using Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated system. After exposure of cadB-1 and wild type (WT) rice seedlings to a range of Cd concentrations for 10 d, Cd accumulated to higher levels in roots, stems and leaves of both cadB-1 and WT with increasing external Cd concentrations, and the inhibition of ...
