Cutaneous Acid Mucopolysaccharides in Ascorbic Acid Deficiency

Dermatology, 1970
Measurements have been made of the concentrations of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate, the rate of uptake of 35SO4 into chondroitin sulphate, and of the molecular weight of the hyaluronic acid in the skin of the guinea-pig during experimental ascorbic acid deprivation. The results indicated that the

AMINO ACIDURIA AND ASCORBIC ACID DEFICIENCY

Pediatrics, 1954
In two cases of infantile scurvy an increased output of amino acids was found which disappeared during three or more weeks of ascorbic acid administration. The excretion of threonine, serine, glycine, tyrosine, histidine, lysine and β-amino-isobutyric acid was increased, that of the other amino acids being normal.

Ascorbic acid synthesis and biotin deficiency

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1962
Abstract Administration of l -ascorbic acid to biotin-deficient rats delayed the onset of deficiency but did not abolish all the clinical symptoms of the deficiency. Biotin-deficient animals excreted less than half the amount of ascorbic acid compared to the animals that received biotin.

Serum Ferritin in Ascorbic Acid Deficiency

British Journal of Haematology, 1980
Summary Serum ferritin levels were monitored in guinea‐pigs rendered scorbutic by dietary deprivation of ascorbic acid (AA). Hepatic and splenic concentrations of AA fell rapidly during the first 8 d of deprivation, and then declined more slowly to reach approximately 10% of control values after 14 d.
