The opinion podcast: A visceral form of persuasion

open access: yesPrompt, 2020
In this assignment, students create a podcast episode in which they make an argument on a topic in current events. Through this process, students develop traditional rhetorical skills such as awareness of audience, formulation of a thesis, and inclusion ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Automated Chemical Shift Assignments of MAS Solid-State NMR Spectra of Complex Protein Systems by ssPINE/ssPINE-POKY

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) spectroscopy enables studying complex macromolecules with low solubility. Compared to solution NMR, few tools exist for biomacromolecule ssNMR data analysis.

Stochastic user equilibrium assignment with elastic demand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
It is well-known that, in deterministic user equilibrium assignment, it is straightforward to allow for elastic demand. The research described in this paper sets out to show that the same is true for stochastic user equilibrium assignment with elastic ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Task Selection for Bandit-Based Task Assignment in Heterogeneous Crowdsourcing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Task selection (picking an appropriate labeling task) and worker selection (assigning the labeling task to a suitable worker) are two major challenges in task assignment for crowdsourcing. Recently, worker selection has been successfully addressed by the

Unsupervised Assignment Flow: Label Learning on Feature Manifolds by Spatially Regularized Geometric Assignment

open access: yes, 2019
This paper introduces the unsupervised assignment flow that couples the assignment flow for supervised image labeling with Riemannian gradient flows for label evolution on feature manifolds.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Spectral Analyses and Structural Elucidation of Azilsartan

open access: yesChinese Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 2019
Azilsartan is a novel AT-1 angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blocker, which reduces blood pressure mildly without the side effect of cough. The drug is believed to have a large market potential. In this study, the drug was analyzed by ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV),

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
