Dissection of a Crayfish (Astacus astacus)
2016Availability: The crayfish is found in freshwater streams and ponds all over the world. There are about 300 species worldwide (Cambarus, Procambarus, Astacus and Orconectes). Lipid Metabolism in Astacus astacus (L.)
Nature, 1962ALTHOUGH not all vertebrate classes have been examined with regard to lipid metabolism, it has been established that vertebrates are able to synthesize cholesterol from acetate by way of squalene. Sometimes this phenomenon has been generalized for invertebrates. However, this view has proved to be incorrect. A wide variety of insects have been found to

The cytotoxic reaction of hemocytes from the freshwater crayfish, Astacus astacus
Cellular Immunology, 1985Crayfish hemocytes displayed cytotoxic capacity towards all tested mammalian tumor and nontumor cell lines. The ratio required for the cytotoxic action of effector cells to target cells was at least 1:1. The lysis of the target cells required a minimum of 1 hr to become detected.

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1977
Abstract 1. 1. Composition of egg proteins of Astacus astacus and A. leptodactylus is compared by different methods. 2. 2. Disc electrophoresis reveals seven fractions in each case, four of them being identical in both species. 3. 3. By immunodiffusion (double diffusion test) three precipitin lines can be obtained, with one of them fusing.
