Exercise-Induced Asthma

open access: yesThe Physician and Sportsmedicine, 1999
Exercise-induced asthma (EIA) is a common condition that can impede physical activity, particularly for children, adolescents, and young adults. A detailed patient history can help the physician identify subtle EIA clues such as fatigue or poorer performance than training would predict.

Asthma prevalence among 16- to 18-year-old adolescents in Saudi Arabia using the ISAAC questionnaire

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2012
Background Most of the studies investigating the prevalence of asthma in various countries have focused on children below the age of 15 years or adults above the age of 18 years. There is limited knowledge concerning the prevalence of asthma in 16- to 18-

High Prevalence of Exercise-induced Laryngeal Obstruction in a Cohort of Elite Cross-country Skiers

open access: yesMedicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 2020
Introduction Exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) is a differential diagnosis for asthma and prevalent in athletes referred for exercise-induced dyspnea. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of EILO in elite cross-country skiers,

Advances in Bioprinting to Model Immune‐Mediated Skin Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how 3D bioprinting drives innovation in developing in vitro skin models that mimic immune‐mediated diseases. It highlights current technologies, key applications in studying skin pathologies, and emerging challenges. The review points toward future opportunities for improving disease modeling and advancing therapeutic and cosmetic ...

Wafer‐Scale Synthesis of Molecularly Engineered 2D Covalent Organic Framework Films for Highly‐Sensitive and Rapid‐Response Humidity Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report molecularly engineered 2D COF films for high‐performance humidity sensors. The developed COFTPT‐THTA ultrathin film features triazine‐functionalized π‐conjugated backbones and high‐density surface hydroxyl groups. This unique architecture facilitates an electron‐proton coupled transport mechanism.

Combination of budesonide/formoterol on demand improves asthma control by reducing exercise-induced bronchoconstriction

open access: yesThorax, 2013
Background In mild asthma exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) is usually treated with inhaled short-acting β2 agonists (SABAs) on demand. Objective The hypothesis was that a combination of budesonide and formoterol on demand diminishes EIB equally

Respiratory Signal Processing and Analysis Using Flexible Capacitive Sensor Data

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Capacitive pressure sensors based on poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) substrates are developed for continuous, non‐invasive respiratory monitoring. Integrated with a signal processing algorithm, they enable accurate tracking of thoracic expansion and retraction.

CD207‐Positive Dendritic Cells Promote Emphysema Through CD8+ T Cell Pathway in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CD207+ dendritic cells (DCs) drive emphysema by promoting CD8⁺ T cell cytotoxicity via Birbeck granule‐dependent MHC‐I antigen presentation. This DC subset is expanded by cigarette smoke‐induced oxidative stress, which triggers granulocyte‐macrophage colony‐stimulating factor (GM‐CSF) release from airway epithelium.

Combinatorial targeting of G‐protein‐coupled bile acid receptor 1 and cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 reveals a mechanistic role for bile acids and leukotrienes in drug‐induced liver injury

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
CHIN117 is a dual cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CYSLTR1) antagonist and G‐protein‐coupled bile acid receptor 1 (GPBAR1) agonist. In the liver, GPBAR1 and CYSLTR1 are coexpressed by liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs), HSCs, circulating monocytes/macrophages, and liver resident macrophages (Kupffer cells).

Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in children: Delphi study and consensus document about definition and epidemiology, diagnostic work-up, treatment, and follow-up

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Background Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) is common in children with asthma but can be present also in children without asthma, especially athletes.
