Asthma–chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap syndrome – a brief review

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis, 2022
Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are common disease observed worldwide. The etiologies of these conditions may be different, but their manifestations lead to inflammation and limited airflow.

Comparison of Healthcare Utilization Before Diagnosis Between Non‐Advanced and Advanced Lung Cancer Patients: A Study Among 72,851 Cases in Germany

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT There is no study from Germany on the association between stage of lung cancer (LC) and patient characteristics. We aimed to compare advanced versus non‐advanced LC cases regarding indicators of healthcare utilization. Using claims data covering 20% of the German population, we included LC patients diagnosed between 2013 and 2019.

Human biomarker navigator

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
The Human Biomarker Navigator integrates the disease continuum, biomarker dynamics, cross‐organ biomarker networks, biomarker classification, and technology‐driven paradigms. It maps how biomarkers link multi‐system physiology and pathology across the nervous, respiratory, endocrine, circulatory, immune, digestive, urinary, reproductive, and ...

Assessment of functional tests on determining resistance of respiratory tract in patients with bronchial asthma, COPD and their combination.

open access: yesMedičnì Perspektivi, 2017
The mechanical properties of the respiratory tract (including airway resistance) is an important indicator of pulmonary function, and definition of resistance is used to diagnose and monitor obstructive lung diseases. This study was performed in order to

The Endothelial CXCR Family in Vascular Health and Disease

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Endothelial cells (ECs) form the dynamic interface between blood and tissue, serving as key regulators of vascular homeostasis, inflammation, and repair. Among the molecular systems governing endothelial behavior, the C‐X‐C motif chemokine receptor (CXCR) family—originally characterized in immunology for its roles in leukocyte trafficking and ...

Coexistence of COPD or asthma in patients with bronchiectasis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine
Background Bronchiectasis frequently coexists with other chronic airway diseases, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, forming clinically significant bronchiectasis–COPD overlap and bronchiectasis–asthma overlap ...

Heterogeneity of asthma-COPD overlap syndrome.

open access: yesInternational journal of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, 2017
Many patients suffering from asthma or COPD have overlapping features of both diseases. However, a phenotypical approach for evaluating asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS) has not been established. In this report, we examined the phenotypes in patients with ACOS.

Vocal Fold Atrophy in Patients With Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This is the first study to quantify vocal fold atrophy in patients with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) using endoscopic imaging. Compared with age‐matched controls, AD/ADRD patients showed significantly greater vocal fold bowing and reduced mucosal wave amplitude, while normalized glottal gap area did not differ.

Toxicity Differences Between Microplastics and Nanoplastics in Organs: From Molecular Mechanisms to Potential Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesMed Research, EarlyView.
This review systematically compares the size‐dependent toxicity of microplastics and nanoplastics in the intestine, liver, kidney, lung, and brain. Particle size determines bioavailability, barrier penetration, and injury mechanisms. Because of their small size and high surface reactivity, NPs readily cross the intestinal epithelium and blood–brain ...
