Permeation of astilbin and taxifolin in Caco-2 cell and their effects on the P-gp

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2009
This study was designed to understand the transport profiles of astilbin and taxifolin in Caco-2 cell model and their effects on the function and expression of P-glycoprotein. The transport studies were examined using Caco-2 cells cultured on Transwell inserts.

The Effects of Astilbin on Cognitive Impairments in a Transgenic Mouse Model of Alzheimer’s Disease

Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, 2016
Bioflavonoids are being utilised as neuroprotectants in the treatment of various neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). Astilbin, a bioflavanoid, has been reported to have potent neuroprotective effects, but its preventive effects on amyloid-β (Aβ)-induced, Alzheimer's disease-related, cognitive impairment, and the underlying ...

Inhibitory effects of astilbin, neoastilbin and isoastilbin on human cytochrome CYP3A4 and 2D6 activities

Biomedical Chromatography, 2020
AbstractAstilbin, neoastilbin and isoastilbin are three flavonoid isomers from Smilacis glabrae Roxb. (S. glabrae). Several studies have shown that consumption of flavonoids can increase the risk of food/drug–drug interaction by affecting the activities of human cytochrome CYP3A4 and 2D6.

Antinociceptive and Anti-oedematogenic Properties of Astilbin, Taxifolin and Some Related Compounds

Arzneimittelforschung, 2011
Astilbin (3-0-alpha-1-rhamnosyl-(2R,3R)-dihydroquercetin), the major constituent isolated from Hymeneae martiana and some derivatives obtained by structural modification, such as taxifolin and two related compounds, were evaluated as analgesics by using both writhing test and formalin test in mice.

Astilbin selectively facilitates the apoptosis of interleukin-2-dependent phytohemagglutinin-activated jurkat cells

Pharmacological Research, 2001
The present study examined the relationship between the activation of T cells and the apoptosis-facilitating effect of astilbin on them. By the stimulation of PHA, a remarkable IL-2 production was detected in the supernatant of Jurkat cells after 120 h among 72--144 h incubation.

Effect of Astilbin on Experimental Diabetic Nephropathyin vivoandin vitro

Planta Medica, 2009
Astilbin, a flavonoid compound, was isolated from the rhizome of Smilax glabra Roxb. This study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of astilbin on experimental diabetic nephropathy (DN) in vivo and in vitro and its possible mechanisms. Astilbin was added in high glucose stimulated HK-2 cells, streptozotocin-induced experimental DN, randomized to ...

Prostanoids and free radicals in Cl4C-induced hepatotoxicity in rats: effect of astilbin

Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids, 1997
A beneficial effect of flavonoids in Cl(4)C-induced hepatoxicity in rats has been reported. In this communication we have evaluated the protective effect of astilbin, an active flavonoid isolated from a crude extract of Hymenaea martiana, as well as its action on liver arachidonate metabolism in Cl(4)C-treated rats.

Effect of particle size on in vitro and in vivo behavior of astilbin nanosuspensions

Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology, 2019
Abstract In this study, the effect of particle size on in vitro and in vivo behavior of astilbin nanosuspensions (AT-NSs) was investigated. AT-NSs with three different particle sizes (215.17 ± 4.83 nm, 496.51 ± 12.94 nm, and 803.34 ± 9.06 nm) were prepared using a simplified wet media milling technique by adjusting milling time.

The anti-hyperuricemic effect of four astilbin stereoisomers in Smilax glabra on hyperuricemic mice

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2019
Smilax glabra Roxb. (SG), a Chinese medicinal herb which called "tufuling", is believed to be effective in treating hyperuricemia and gout symptoms. But the active substance and pharmacological mechanism of reducing uric acid remain unknown. This study aimed to obtain the total flavonoids including four astilbin stereoisomers and to examine their ...

[Preparation of astilbin amorphous nanosuspension and its in vitro evaluation].

Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica, 2019
Astilbil nanosuspension (AT-NS) was prepared by an antisolvent precipitation method. The formula and process of AT-NS were optimized by the single factor experiment. AT-NS was prepared under the optimal conditions, and its morphology and crystallinity were characterized. In vitro release of AT-NS was also determined.
