Hydroquinone‐induced endoplasmic reticulum stress affects TK6 cell autophagy and apoptosis via ATF6‐mTOR

Environmental Toxicology, 2023
Hydroquinone (HQ), one of the main active metabolites of benzene in vivo, 7is commonly used as a surrogate for benzene in in vitro studies and has been shown to be cytotoxic.

Repaglinide Elicits a Neuroprotective Effect in Rotenone-Induced Parkinson's Disease in Rats: Emphasis on Targeting the DREAM-ER Stress BiP/ATF6/CHOP Trajectory and Activation of Mitophagy.

ACS Chemical Neuroscience, 2022
Repaglinide, a meglitinide insulinotropic antidiabetic, was unraveled as a promising therapeutic agent for Huntington's disease by targeting the neuronal calcium sensor downstream regulatory element antagonist modulator (DREAM).

ATF6 is a critical regulator of cadmium-mediated apoptosis in spermatocytes

Toxicological Sciences, 2023
Abstract In this study, we examined the mechanisms of cadmium exposure-induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response and apoptosis in spermatocytes. Responses to cadmium toxicity were investigated using spermatocytes overexpressing p50ATF6, ATF4, and spliced XBP1s, belonging to the 3 unfolded protein response pathways. The ER stress

Transcriptional activation of ATF6 by endoplasmic reticulum stressors

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2007
Previous studies have shown that modification of activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) protein is important for the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response; ER stressors stimulate the degradation of ATF6 by Site-1 protease (S1P) and Site-2 protease (S2P) into p50-ATF6, which acts as a transcription factor.

A missense polymorphism in ATF6 gene is associated with susceptibility to hepatocellular carcinoma probably by altering ATF6 level

International Journal of Cancer, 2013
Accumulated evidences indicate that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) are associated with risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) is an important modulator of the unfolded protein response (UPR), which is regarded to be involved in carcinogenesis.

A primitive role for ATF6

Science, 2018
Development The unfolded protein response (UPR) preserves endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis in mature cells. However, inactivating mutations in the UPR-associated transcription factor ATF6 cause congenital vision defects, suggesting a developmental role for ATF6 as well.

Hexavalent chromium induces centrosome amplification through ROS‐ATF6‐PLK4 pathway in colon cancer cells

Cell Biology International, 2022
Centrosome amplification (CA) refers to a numerical increase in centrosomes resulting in cells with more than two centrosomes. CA has been shown to initiate tumorigenesis and increase the invasive potential of cancer cells in genetically modified ...

Curcumin affects apoptosis of colorectal cancer cells through ATF6‐mediated endoplasmic reticulum stress

Chemical Biology and Drug Design
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the main cause of cancer‐associated death. Herein, we treated SW620 and HT‐29 CRC cells with different curcumin concentrations, followed by treatment with the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) curcumin/endoplasmic ...

ATF6 supports lysosomal function in tumor cells to enable ER stress-activated macroautophagy and CMA: impact on mutant TP53 expression

Autophagy
The inhibition of the unfolded protein response (UPR), which usually protects cancer cells from stress, may be exploited to potentiate the cytotoxic effect of drugs inducing ER stress. However, in this study, we found that ER stress and UPR activation by

ER stress signaling by regulated proteolysis of ATF6

Methods, 2005
ATF6 is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane-anchored transcription factor activated by intramembrane proteolysis in the ER stress response. Upon ER stress, ATF6 is transported from the ER to the Golgi to be processed by site-1 and site-2 proteases. The trafficking is controlled by the ER chaperone BiP/GRP78.
