Evolution of Mercury’s Earliest Atmosphere

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2021
Abstract MESSENGER observations suggest a magma ocean formed on proto-Mercury, during which evaporation of metals and outgassing of C- and H-bearing volatiles produced an early atmosphere. Atmospheric escape subsequently occurred by plasma heating, photoevaporation, Jeans escape, and photoionization.

Adélie penguins north and east of the ‘Adélie gap’ continue to thrive in the face of dramatic declines elsewhere in the Antarctic Peninsula region

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
While population declines among Adélie penguins and population increases among gentoo penguins on the Western Antarctic Peninsula are well established, the logistical challenges of operating in the sea ice-heavy northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula ...

Conclusive Evidence for a Population of Water Worlds around M Dwarfs Remains Elusive

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
The population of small, close-in exoplanets is bifurcated into super-Earths and sub-Neptunes. We calculate physically motivated mass–radius relations for sub-Neptunes, with rocky cores and H/He-dominated atmospheres, accounting for their thermal ...

Reviewing Martian Atmospheric Noble Gas Measurements: From Martian Meteorites to Mars Missions

open access: yesGeosciences, 2020
Martian meteorites are the only samples from Mars available for extensive studies in laboratories on Earth. Among the various unresolved science questions, the question of the Martian atmospheric composition, distribution, and evolution over geological ...

Two-year observations of the Jupiter polar regions by JIRAM on board Juno [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We observed the evolution of Jupiter's polar cyclonic structures over two years between February 2017 and February 2019, using polar observations by the Jovian InfraRed Auroral Mapper, JIRAM, on the Juno mission.

Scaling K2. VII. Evidence For a High Occurrence Rate of Hot Sub-Neptunes at Intermediate Ages

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
The NASA K2 mission obtained high-precision time-series photometry for four young clusters, including the near-twin 600–800 Myr old Praesepe and Hyades clusters. Hot sub-Neptunes are highly prone to mass-loss mechanisms, given their proximity to the host

Atmospheric Escape Processes and Planetary Atmospheric Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2020
Abstract The habitability of the surface of any planet is determined by a complex evolution of its interior, surface, and atmosphere. The electromagnetic and particle radiation of stars drive thermal, chemical, and physical alteration of planetary atmospheres, including escape. Many known extrasolar planets experience vastly different

Assessing the ability of the 14C projection-age method to constrain the circulation of the past in a 3-D ocean model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Radiocarbon differences between benthic and planktonic foraminifera (B-P ages) and radiocarbon projection ages are both used to determine changes of the past ocean circulation rate.

Temporally resolved laser induced plasma diagnostics of single crystal silicon - effects of ambient pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy of silicon was performed using a nanosecond pulsed frequency doubled Nd:YAG (532 nm) laser. The temporal evolution of the laser ablation plumes in air at atmospheric pressure and at an ambient pressure of ∼10−5 mbar
