Connectionless ATM using an ATM switch router

1997
Short message exchange capability is required for control plane operations of several applications in ATM networks, such as multimedia networking, Intelligent Network-based services, and to support mobility in wireless ATM networks. Existing methods to transport such messages between ATM nodes typically suffer from the disadvantages of excessive ...

Enabling ATM networks

IBM Systems Journal, 1995
Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is the primary candidate technology for emerging high-speed networks. ATM standardization provides the basic framework for building ATM networks. Although the development of ATM standards and the availability of high-speed links in the network is essential, what really matters is how ATM networks are enabled so as to ...

Accelerating ATM: on-line compression of ATM streams

1999 IEEE International Performance, Computing and Communications Conference (Cat. No.99CH36305), 1999
Since ATM switches intended to be simple and inexpensive, a significant part of the network cost is in the cost of the links. A way of increasing the traffic we can send over these expensive links is to transmit compressed ATM cells. This idea, although it seems very simple, is a new one for ATM and in this paper we show that it can significantly ...

Securing ATM networks

Proceedings of the 3rd ACM conference on Computer and communications security - CCS '96, 1996
In this paper we identify and address the challenges unique to providing a secure ATM network. We analyse the network environment and consider the correct placement of security mechanisms, with particular attention to data transfer protection, in such an environment. We then introduce and describe a key agile cryptographic device for ATM networks.

Absolute Calibration of ATMS Upper Level Temperature Sounding Channels Using GPS RO Observations

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2014
The absolute accuracy of antenna brightness temperatures (TDR) from the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) onboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite is estimated using the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology ...

ATMs

2017
This chapter investigates the history of the ubiquitous yet banal Automated Teller Machine, or ATM. There is no single inventor of the ATM. Rather, it emerged through innovation around the globe and across the industry. In order to build a successful ATM system, engineers and bankers had to overcome challenges that ranged from security and ...

QoS-aware routing in ATM and IP-over-ATM

Computer Communications, 2001
This paper analyzes the performance of some dynamic routing algorithms for ATM and IP-over-ATM networks. The main algorithm, named AR-DLCP (Alternate Routing - Distributed Least Congested Path), is based on a distributed computation, where the ''best'' route is chosen node-by-node in the call set-up phase, by taking decisions on the basis of a cost ...

Bank ATMs and ATM surcharges

2005
The proliferation of ATMs and the pricing schemes that accompany them have attracted a great deal of attention from research economists, because they shed light on how banks compete against each other in the current environment. By studying the pattern of entry of ATMs in certain markets we can gain insight into the potential welfare consequences of ...

ATM security with firewalls

Proceedings ISCC 2000. Fifth IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications, 2002
In current ATM networks the security issues are gaining a broad attention. For a higher customer satisfaction the service providers must guarantee the security of the user data. Unlike the existing proposals, the method proposed here realizes both the security and integrity services in the ATM layer, so it allows a data integrity check in the ...
