The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Developing an Integrated Model of Resilience and System Dynamics for NPP Accident [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Systems Thinking in Practice
The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (FDNPP) accident highlights the role of resilience and system dynamics in maintaining the safety of nuclear power plants (NPP).

A Review of Recent Developments in Atomic Processes for Divertors and Edge Plasmas

open access: yes, 1995
The most promising concepts for power and particle control in tokamaks and other fusion experiments rely upon atomic processes to transfer the power and momentum from the edge plasma to the plasma chamber walls. This places a new emphasis on processes at

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Investigations on strength of piping for non-condensable gas combustion (Part 2: FEM analysis of steel pipes with a valve or an elbow subjected to hydrogen-oxygen detonation)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
Carbon steel pipe specimens, which had been experimentally ruptured or deformed by hydrogen-oxygen detonation, were analysed by dynamic analysis using a finite element method (FEM).

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Investigations on strength of piping for non-condensable gas combustion (Part 3: Estimation of fracture strain of steel pipes subjected to hydrogen-oxygen detonation)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
To assess the integrity of piping under the detonation pressure of accumulated hydrogen-oxygen, the fracture strain of the pipe material must be identified.

Recent verification activities on probabilistic fracture mechanics analysis code PASCAL4 for reactor pressure vessel

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2020
Probabilistic fracture mechanics (PFM) is considered a promising methodology in assessing the integrity of structural components in nuclear power plants because it can rationally represent the influence parameters in their probabilistic distributions ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.
