Oxygenic photosynthesis is the principal converter of sunlight into chemical energy. Cyanobacteria and plants provide aerobic life with oxygen, food, fuel, fibers, and platform chemicals. Four multisubunit membrane proteins are involved: photosystem I (PSI), photosystem II (PSII), cytochrome b6f (cyt b6f), and ATP synthase (FOF1).

Synthesis and hydrolysis of ATP by the mitochondrial ATP synthase
Biochemistry and Cell Biology, 1988A brief summary of the factors that control synthesis and hydrolysis of ATP by the mitochondrial H+-ATP synthase is made. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of the natural ATPase inhibitor protein. It is clear from the existing data obtained with a number of agents that there is no correlation between variations of the rate of ATP hydrolysis ...

The ATP hydrolysis activity of purified ATP synthase reconstituted in liposomes was inhibited by triphenyltin in a manner different from that of other thiol-specific reagents. In liposomes containing ATP synthase and bacteriorhodopsin, ATP hydrolysis and ATP-Pi exchange were inhibited by triphenyltin to a greater extent than the ATP synthesis, in ...

ATP receptors continue to be found in an ever wider range of tissues in the brain and the periphery. Much of the recent research on these receptors focuses on features that would distinguish ATP-mediated excitatory synaptic transmission from that mediated through glutamate or acetylcholine receptors.

Yeast ATP sulfurylase-ATP complex
International Journal of Biochemistry, 1974Abstract A relatively stable enzyme-substrate complex was formed when highly purified yeast ATP sulfurylase was incubated with ATP. The entire ATP molecule was bound by the enzyme.

It has been known for some years that intra-arterial application of ATP as well as the only treatment with hyperbaric Oxygen is able to influence favorably a sudden hearing loss. In this study the combined application of both agents was used optimally. Up to now only few cases could be treated.

Pain Practice, 2002
Many decades have passed since the pain-producing properties of ATP were demonstrated in both animals and humans. However, the more recent discovery of a family of ion channels for which ATP is a ligand and which are expressed by nociceptive neurons, has led to a resurgence of interest into the physiological and pathophysiological actions of ATP.

Role of ATP in ATP-dependent Deoxyribonuclease Activity
Nature New Biology, 1972ATP-DEPENDENT deoxyribonucleases with an exonucleolytic action on native DNA have been reported from several bacterial sources1. On the basis of evidence from two of these organisms, these enzymes are thought to have a role in recombination. ATP is converted to ADP and orthophosphate in the course of these enzymes' action, so that they are also DNA ...
