Oxygenic photosynthesis is the principal converter of sunlight into chemical energy. Cyanobacteria and plants provide aerobic life with oxygen, food, fuel, fibers, and platform chemicals. Four multisubunit membrane proteins are involved: photosystem I (PSI), photosystem II (PSII), cytochrome b6f (cyt b6f), and ATP synthase (FOF1).

ATP regeneration by thermostable ATP synthase
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1996We investigated the possibility of using thermostable ATP synthase (TF(0)F(1)) for a new ATP regeneration method. TF(0)F(1) was purified from a thermophilic bacterium, PS3, and reconstituted into liposomes. ATP synthesis experiments showed that TF(0)F(1) liposomes could synthesize ATP in micromole concentrations by acid-base change.

It has been known for some years that intra-arterial application of ATP as well as the only treatment with hyperbaric Oxygen is able to influence favorably a sudden hearing loss. In this study the combined application of both agents was used optimally. Up to now only few cases could be treated.
