Caveolin-1 and ATP Binding Cassette Transporter A1 and G1-Mediated Cholesterol Efflux

Cardiovascular & Hematological Disorders-Drug Targets, 2014
Atherosclerosis is one major cause of cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death in industrialized countries. Reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) is thought to be one primary pathway to protect against atherosclerosis. The first and rate-limiting step of RCT is ATP-binding cassette transport A1 (ABCA1) and ABCG1-mediated cholesterol efflux ...

Human Aldehyde Oxidase 1 Interacts with ATP-binding Cassette Transporter-1 and Modulates its Activity in Hepatocytes

Hormone and Metabolic Research, 2007
AOX1, a member of the cytosolic molybdenum hydroxylase family, has been identified by us earlier as an ABCA1-interacting protein. AOX1 is well-described as xenobiotic metabolizing enzyme, which upon oxidation of acetaldehyde and retinaldehyde to acetic acid and retinoic acid generates reactive oxygen species.

Molecular Cloning of the Human ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter 1 (hABC1): Evidence for Sterol-Dependent Regulation in Macrophages

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1999
We have cloned the full-length cDNA for the human ATP binding cassette transporter 1 (hABC1). The 6603-bp open reading frame encodes a polypeptide of 2201 amino acids resulting in a deduced molecular weight of 220 kDa. The hABC1 cDNA is highly homologous (62%) to the human rim ABC transporter (ABCR).

The association of the R219K polymorphism in the ATP-binding cassette transporter 1 (ABCA1) gene with coronary heart disease and hyperlipidaemia

Journal of Molecular Medicine, 2003
The R219K polymorphism in the ATP-binding cassette transporter 1 gene ( ABCA1) has been associated with reduced severity of atherosclerosis, fewer coronary events, decreased triglycerides and a trend to increased HDL in men with coronary heart disease (CHD).

Endothelin‐1 exacerbates lipid accumulation by increasing the protein degradation of the ATP‐binding cassette transporter G1 in macrophages

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 2011
AbstractEndothelin‐1 (ET‐1), a potent proatherogenic vasoconstrictive peptide, is known to promote macrophage foam cell formation via mechanisms that are not fully understood. Excessive lipid accumulation in macrophages is a major hallmark during the early stages of atherosclerotic lesions.

Effects of niacin and chromium on the expression of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 and apolipoprotein A-1 genes in HepG2 cells

The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, 2009
The ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) and apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA-1) are both involved in the regulation of cholesterol efflux from cells. The overexpression of ABCA1 and ApoA-1 genes are associated with increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels.

Caveolin-1 interacts with ATP binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1) and regulates ABCG1-mediated cholesterol efflux

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2014
ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1) plays an important role in macrophage reverse cholesterol transport in vivo by promoting cholesterol efflux onto lipidated apoA-I. However, the underlying mechanism is unclear. Here, we found that ABCG1 co-immunoprecipitated with caveolin-1 (CAV1) but not with flotillin-1 and -2.

Expression and Clinical Significance of ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter 1 in Serum and Placental Tissue in Chinese Patients with Preeclampsia

Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 2014
Aim: To investigate the expression and clinical significance of ATP-binding cassette transporter 1 (ABCA1) in pregnant women with preeclampsia (PE). Methods: 52 pregnant women with PE who were admitted for delivery were enrolled in the study, while 30 normal pregnant inpatients

Oxidized LDL upregulated ATP binding cassette transporter-1 in THP-1 macrophages.

Acta pharmacologica Sinica, 2004
To study the effect of oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) on ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) in THP-1 macrophages. After exposing the cultured THP-1 macrophages to ox-LDL for different periods, cholesterol efflux was determined by FJ-2107P type liquid scintillator.
